What was the mode of failure? Hard pump bulb? Flat or loose pump bulb? Pump works , but no inflation? Inflates ok but then deflates by itself? Inflates crooked?

Maybe someone here had similar problem and could suggest a solution.

I've actually thought about how much all the implant parts actually cost. I'd bet lots of money that they don't cost more than $100, total.
It's the same way with the vacuum pumps and lots of other plastic things we buy.
Look at a sun visor clip on my truck? It sells for around $15 and probably costs $.25 to make.
I don't think it's the material that wears out as much as the design, and manufacturing of them.

Implant on 1/22/19 by Dr Avila.
Scrotal, hor. incision just over 1"

Gleason 6 prostate cancer. Monitoring it for now.
Update: On my last biopsies the cancer wasn't found.

And the value of all the components of a human body is less than $5.00 U.S.

Of course, you are correct that there is a lot of excess in all the medical devices and drugs we have, so your point is well taken. But how do you propose we separate the dross from the gold?

What REALLY bugs me is that there seems to be a substantial "break-in" period before the implant works smoothly and reliably. I think the "rough edges" (primarily inside the pump mechanism it appears) should be smoothed off BEFORE implant surgery. There is no excuse for requiring the patient in those first tender weeks to work out the kinks when they could be handled before the surgery.

Good point, It seems to be a manufacturing problem, more than a materials used problem. Unlike an automobile, I don't think these things are designed to need replacing. Someday, someone will design and manufacture more reliable products. A 10 year guarantee would give an indication of when this might happen.

I have an AMS 700 LGX . almost 8 years old. No revisions to this point. My bulb has flat-lined- will not inflate. Not sure if it is a bulb issue or a reservoir issue. I am hoping that the new Uro I have can do the repair with simple replacement of those parts- not a full revision. Since it is 8 years old - I am not sure what he will say we need to do. AMS patient liaison seems to think I might be able to do replacement of parts if the Dr says that is what is needed.

If it is a full revision -how long is "normal" time after removal of the old device before Dr will install a new device?? What is healing period before surgery?

Not a happy camper with my bionic not working...

They take out the old one and put in the new one at the same time. Most revisions are easier than first implant. I just had a complete tear out from a disaster install and everything put in new 2 weeks ago tomorrow.
LGX 21cm .Milam 01/13/16. Horror; both service and surgical outcome. hated infrapubic installation. Kramer revision 03/01/17. 22cm Titan +1.5cm extender. Those who think their opinion is the only one that matters are a danger to themselves and others.

I agree with you 100%. Why can't they make them work smooth straight out of the box? Depending where you have the surgery, they charge between $7,000 (Eid) and $22,000 ( Vanderbilt) for the device only. Who would give that for a car that might run and might not for the first 6 months?

Define "easier"? It was difficult 8 years ago -I was on antibiotics for a while. I don't know since the device has been in so long if the removal and reinsertion of a new device will be uncomplicated. I have had no other issues in 8 years.. other than initial antibiotics...

Many have noted that a new implant's pump is hard to oump, but "loosens up" after a few weeks and thereafter operates easily. The quintessential definition of a break-in period.

Why can these devices not be broken in at the factory?
