question re AMS letter.....

Postby dmikesaw » Wed Oct 05, 2011 3:06 am

I asked AMS to send me the tech data sheet that they compile on each implantee. They did and it specifies that my cylinders are 12-18 mm. I thought the cylinders were the same size their entire length, however. Anybody know what this 12-18 mm spec means exactly?

I think those are the same cylinders I have and I assumed that 12 represents the uninflated dia. and 18 the max inflated diameter. Just some quick and dirty math 18 x 2 x 3.1415=113/25.4 = 4.4inches girth. This is could mean that with the 12-18mm cylinders your girth will be no larger than about 4 1/2"? Anyway, I too would like to hear if my assumtion of what the 12-18mm means.

I ask my dr about the size of the implant. He said the AMS 700LGX came in only 2 girth sizes and he said he almost always uses the larger one. I saw someplace on this site that the 2 sizes were 18mm and 22mm. It would be nice to have some clarification on this..

I got a reply from AMS and they said that the 12-18 mm cylinder is 12 mm uninflated and could expand up to a maximum of 18 mm (depending on the elasticity of the patients intracorporal tissue) when inflated. But I don't know if they are referring to diameter or circumference..........

AMS replied today and said the 12-18mm dimension is the cylinder diameter........................
