How long can one reasonably expect the implant to work

Over the past few decades the service life has been gradually increasing. 2 to 5 years when they were first introduced (I have read) and now the 15 year mark is not unheard of.

Variability from individual to individual is rather extreme, though.

There are statisrics in the literature which have informed my opinion, but I did not save the links. You (or I) would have to google searches again.
