Newbie and have questions
Newbie and have questions
Hello, guys. I have my first appointment with Dr. Henry in Shrevesport in 1 month. I live approximately 140 miles from his office. Someone that has used Dr. Henry will you please tell me what to expect. My main question is : Is the surgery done in the morning , can you go home and when do you return? I am actually looking forward to getting back in the grove of things. Thanks to all in advance. Wes
Re: Newbie and have questions

If you search the implant forum for "Henry" you will find a couple of people who have used Dr. Henry. You could PM them directly.

Read the post a few slots down "WHAT A DAY". That should answer some of your questions.

Re: Newbie and have questions
I can't speak about other doctors, but mine considers infection to be the greatest implant risk. To that point he premedicates with oral antibotics starting two days prior to surgery. The antibotics are Rifampin 300mg and Cefadroxil 500mg. He also wants you to wash the pelvic area with Betadine starting two days prior to surgery. He books the first operating room slot of the day to ensure the room is sanitary. He starts an antibiotic drip 1 hour prior to surgery and continues it for 24 hours. That means an overnight stay. Once home the oral antibiotics continue for ten days. No showering for two days post surgery. He does a one week follow-up. and a 30 day follow-up. Hope this helps you prepare for your surgery. The pump get inflated and deflated periodically post surgery based on you one week follow-up.
It would be interesting to see a thread that deals with the surgery protocol used by different doctors. It could help people decide what doctor to use and what you need to get your doctor to do to insure best practices are used.
Hope this gives you an idea of what to expect.

Re: Newbie and have questions
That's a great posting Ed. My doctor took all of the same precautions with me. He was so careful about infections.

Very informative posting Ed. Great job!! My Doctor took all the above precautions against infection.
Also, a Foley Catheter is inserted post-op and removed by the Urology Nurse or Resident the following morning.
I was released the following day as soon as I could urinate normally.
December 13th will be my fourth anniversary of the Coloplast Titan Penile Implant Procedure.
To date, I am completely satisfied and have had no problems.
Hope this is helpful.
Best of luck Newbie.
