When did you(r surgeon) choose maker and model implant?

This is a topic that I would expect to discuss with the surgeon at length, and unless something unexpected and fully necessary, I expect to wake up and have implanted what was agreed. Sadly, It doesn't always happens, and sometimes it is for the worst. Believe me, the feeling is devastating, insultingly and so demoralizing.
54 years old, happily married for 30 years to a beautiful & outstanding lady. Onset ED at 49. Finally fixed on 11/08/2017 by the master Dr. Eid with a Titan XL 26, no RTEs! Previously had 3 AMS implants (LGX & CX), all botched.

My Dr. showed me both implants. I asked about the pros and cons of each. We also discussed the fact that my wife was older and did not want a hard erection. We had that with a VED and intercourse was painful for her (she has fibromyalgia). I was adamant concerning the AMS for that reason. If he had the liberty to put whatever he wanted in me and chose Coloplast, it would have been devastating for us. It's my dick and there is NWIH I am going to let anyone chose what goes in it.

OK, but, he did do what was best for the patient.

Agreed, but not after he opened me up. Because I had to have an AMS, I couldn't give him the green light to decide. If there weren't special circumstances, I had complete confidence in his choice of implant and in his expertise.

No, in your case what was good for the patient heavily involved a third party.. :D

Larry I can help you out a little with this. Dr. Eid is going to put you to sleep and you are going to wake up with a Coloplast. Just like 95% of his patents. I had a video consultation with him a year ago. He told me to call back after I was at less a year out form my prostratanectomy. He told me that his procedure was to exam me the day before and at that point he would tell me what type of implant he was going to use, but it would be after he put me to sleep, is when he would determine length.

Dr Kramer told me the day of surgery that it was my choice, either one would be fine. He said the AMS has a less chance of crinkles and come with a great coating of antibiotics but the choice was mine.

I would want to know before my surgery what brand implant I would receive. Not have a Dr. make that decision for me at the last moment.

Donnie;
I have agreed with everything you have said until now. Although I have some medical knowledge (maybe more than the average guy due to my occupation) my doctor is the expert. If I said I really want the AMS, I would be very disappointed if the Dr. said OK. I would hope that he would open me up and then use his best judgement and years of medical knowledge and experience to give me what was in my best interest. Sorry buddy, just my opinion.

Larry

I would want to have an expectation of what I was going to get, as well as the reasoning why that choice. Also, if I wound up with something different, the reasoning behind the change,

I am a particulatly participatory patient, but would not seek to substitute my judgement for my surgeon's, merely have the assurance that I have been heard and understood. How else can a Doctor judge what is in his patient's best interest. He MUST understand what his patient's interests are (or his spouse's)
