Do I need someone there?

It is impossible to predict whether you will have post op pain or not. I think it depends a lot on the surgeon. My surgeon was Dr Kramer and I had good results.

I left the hospital 4 hours after surgery which was on a Wednesday, took a taxi and walked to my room. Minimal pain. Next day the bandages came off and catheter fell out = no swelling, no bruising, minimal pain. Stayed in bed until Saturday when I took a taxi to the airport and flew home.

Was ready for sex 2 weeks after surgery but will admit, it was a bit tender. Those implant cylinders need some time to settle in. It is now 3 months after surgery and sex is pain free.

A few suggestions. Stay in bed for a few days after surgery. Don't walk unless you have to. This seems to be the usual advice to speed up recovery. Constipation induced by the anesthesia was a major issue for me. It accounted for 95% of the post=op discomfort. Take Motrin for pain, not narcotics. The narcotics make the constipation worse. Take stool softeners for a long time and gylcerin suppositories are life savers. It took over 2 months before I had regular bowel movements but now everything is normal. And make no mistake, bloating and constipation is uncomfortable

Please create a signature. It makes things much easier to answer your questions without asking a lot of questions. Here's how you do it
Click on your name in the top right corner and select "user control panel"

Then under the big letters "User Control Panel" there is a row of words... select "Profile"

Then down the left had side of the "User Control Panel" select "Edit Signature" (You might have Create Signature or something. I don't know exactly what you'll get because I already have a signature to edit)

Most guys put something like what I have, but you can put whatever you want. Here is mine -
"AMS 700 (18 + 2 rte's). Implanted March 30, 2017 by Dr. Brock of London, Ont, CANADA. Great surgeon. Went in to septic shock and had to have implant removed April 29, 2017. I'm from Belleville, Ontario, CANADA. Appt. for consult for second attempt is on November 6, 2017... I can't wait."

Don't get too carried away with the doctor like his name, address, phone number, etc (anything that looks like advertising for him).. you can certainly say Dr. Jones (great Dr.)

I had my implant surgery 4 weeks ago. My wife was with me, but I could have been alone and been perfectly fine. I never actually asked for her help with anything. Unlike some other guys, I never had the pain, swelling, or excessive bruising.

Just one note regarding the hotel, I was so paranoid about getting infected, so I brought my own sheets and had my wife sanitize every part of the room using Lysol especially the knobs, bathroom, remote, etc. Up until now, 25 days post-op, I always sanitize every where around me. I was not like this before, but hey, infection is the worst thing that could happen.

I took drastic precautions as well abut still ended up with sepsis. To this day, I still mostly blame dribbles of urine. It happened almost a month after surgery so it had nothing to do with that and I had sterile dressings on the incision. I can't think of anything else that could have caused it.

That was so unfortunate Larry. You went through such an ordeal. I wish and pray that you've a better luck in December.
I'm not an MD, but if you believe that dripples of urine caused that, did you think about checking for chronic UTI ? Sometimes the UTI won't go away, but the bacteria just lingers there in the bladder and attacks from time to time.

Thanks for your prayers for December. I know that I will be in very competent hands. Dr. Brock is the Canadian version of Kramer and Eid. As for UTI's I have had an incredible amount of surgery since 2012, each time they do pre and post blood work and have never found a UTI. With my medical background, I'm sure I would have noticed at least one of the UTI symptoms and I never have.. I guess I will never know but I am crossing my fingers for December.
