Newby here, thinking about an implant

Postby rooster2 » Fri Nov 10, 2017 6:46 pm

Lost my prostate to cancer surgery, that was non nerve sparing last August of 2016. I had so many bad side effects from surgery, radiation, and illness from flu, bronchitis, then later hernia surgery, that I wasn't interested in sex. For the past year, I have been on cancer hormone therapy, so my Libido is about zero. Only in the past two months have my wife and I attempted intimacy, even though I am not horny. The bi-mix did not work, so just switched to tri-mix, and have gotten good results. Still, it is just plain weird doing self injections to the middle of my johnson. I am just not grasping the new normal.

I know three guys with implants. All seem satisfied with the results. My concern, is how much pain is there in recovery? One buddy said very minimal, another guy said he was hurting for weeks. After reading a great deal of posts here, it seem like the choice of doctor determines how much pain the patient will incur. Guys receiving the artificial sphincter generally report pain at incision sites only. Guys with implants can have a great deal of bruising (internal hemorrhaging) resulting in swelling, and lots of pain. Thus a more difficult recovery.

It seems to me that the cause of the tissue trauma (collateral damage) is the result of rough dilation in preparation of inserting the implant devise. This seemed to be the case in watching some u-tube videos of implant surgery. Maybe, that is why I continued to read over and over, the advise of others, who said to find a doctor that does a number of implant surgeries, and has done at least a hundred in the past.

All this being said, does anyone know of a good implant surgeon in Indianapolis, where I live? I have a few names, but no nothing about their success.

Much thanks,
Rooster2
Age 72, married 30 years, had Robotic RP 8/06.17, non nerve sparing. Lengthy recovery problems after surgery & radiation. On hormone therapy so no libido. Use Trimix with results. Considering implant, concern re painful recovery

Rooster, it's pretty good if you create a signature at the bottom of your post so we can see important details regarding age, strategies you have tried and general health stuff......you will notice that most of us have one.

All I can tell you after 10 months of living with a Titan is; I honestly don't really remember much about the discomfort I experienced during the first 6 or 8 weeks post op because I am having too good a time fucking my GF several times a week for up to 3 hours a session!!
It is undoubtedly one of the best decisions I have ever made regarding my health and happiness.
68,Titan Touch 22cm+1.5cm rte's op done in Melbourne Aust by Dr Chris Love-Feb 2017 Venous leakage over a 2 year period, did pills and Caverject. Length@ 3 1/2years is: 7+” erect, 6.5” flaccid and almost 6” girth. REZUM Feb 21 ejaculation now normal.

Please create a signature. It makes things much easier to answer your questions without asking a lot of questions. Here's how you do it
Click on your name in the top right corner and select "user control panel"

Then under the big letters "User Control Panel" there is a row of words... select "Profile"

Then down the left had side of the "User Control Panel" select "Edit Signature" (You might have Create Signature or something. I don't know exactly what you'll get because I already have a signature to edit)

Most guys put something like what I have, but you can put whatever you want. Here is mine -
"AMS 700 (18 + 2 rte's). Implanted March 30, 2017 by Dr. Brock of London, Ont, CANADA. Great surgeon. Went in to septic shock and had to have implant removed April 29, 2017. I'm from Belleville, Ontario, CANADA. Appt. for consult for second attempt is on November 6, 2017... I can't wait."

Don't get too carried away with the doctor like his name, address, phone number, etc (anything that looks like advertising for him).. you can certainly say Dr. Jones (great Dr.)

If you need further help, please ask, that's what I'm here for.

Rooster,
Welcome to FT. I just received my implant two months ago. I had very little bruising or pain. After reading many posts here myself, I think most guys will agree whatever pain they went through was worth the results. It is rare there are any big issues from the surgery. It will simply be a matter of how much you dislike injecting your dick. If you hate it, the implant will eliminate what you hate and probably be worth whatever pain you would have. IF the fear of pain gets you more than the dislike of injecting, you aren't ready yet.

I had Prostate Cancer and had a Prostatectomy in 2014, but I had long term ED for 30 years. I am so happy with my implant. It is wonderful to be able to have an erection any time I want it. It is also great to be able to continue when I cum before my wife and stick with it until I have fully satisfied her. Masturbation has been way more fun, too.

Best wishes to you with whatever you end up doing.

Greg
I am 64 and had ED from a VL. Implanted by Dr. Ronald Anglade in Atlanta on 9/18/17. I have an AMS700LGX 21 cm via a Penoscrotal incision. Very happy with results. 6" soft and 6 3/4” x 5 5/8” hard.

I can only relate my experience. However, my conclusion is that if your surgery goes as mine, do it asap. Don't wait. My pain was minimal. Never used more than ibuprofen. The swelling is ugly, but not that painful. It took me 8 weeks for 95% to go down. I an 3 months out now and the incision hurts a little when I stretch it. They say it takes 6 months "to own your implant." Erections are outstanding. As they say, I can hang a wet bath sheet on it. With a CX, I have no chance of recovering my prior length, but my doctor refuses to use the LGX, as it is "too new." I asked for one, but no. Other doctors do the LGX all the time. But having lost length doesn't contribute to the pain, just the self image. So far my orgasms are returning. I can get there about 2/3 of the time. Another thing that comes back over time. Pain is not your biggest problem. For me the pills, vacuum pump and injections were FAR worse than the implant, and less effective. But you say you are not horny. I am one horny son of a bitch. Prior to my prostate surgery, I would have 4-5 orgasms a week, limited only by available time, and some solo. If you are getting an implant to satisfy your wife, recognize this, and know that if she is not 200% on board, you are wasting your time and effort. Many women lose interest as they get older and if she is one, and you don't need regular orgasms, push through until you both are old enough that sex is a fond memory that you did as kids. The follow through on an implant is not trivial. I pump it up, so as not to lose length, at least twice a day, have sex at least 3 times a week to get my orgasms back, and frequently walk around the house "inflated." I don't call it an erection, because it isn't the same as before. I am not 18 again. But I can stay hard as a rock for hours. Getting my orgasms back demands a lot of cooperation from my partner. I sometimes have to thrust MANY minutes before knowing I wont get there. She loves it in the beginning, but after her 6, 8, 10 orgasms, she is ready to quit, but I'm not through yet and I plow on. She views her job as providing vaginal rehab for my new penis. But I know she would like to stop sooner than I want to. So, get your wife's true feelings about sex, now, and as the two of you get older. If sex is not on your priority list, an implant is probably not worth the trouble. If she comes back with a comment that she can do without, and you aren't driven to satisfy your own needs, dump the idea. For me, I should not have waited so long.
Aug'15: RP NON nerve-sparing on Rt. Pills, vac pump, injections: Injections were best, about 50%. Aug'17: Penile pain and headaches. Implant: AMS CX 18 cm+2 cm. (Undersized! :x ) Asked for LGX! Ochsner Hospital, New Orleans, LA Still working great.

Some new comments and questions may come from your wife.
Like we need to stop for a few minutes to rest.
Are you bigger than before?
I can take you maxed outit would hurt

Flacid and erect should be replaced with deflated and pumped or inflated
