I can tell you what my doc said but first a bit of background. Diagnosed with PCa fall of 2010, had open prostatectomy Dec 2010. Path report was iffy, pT3a negative margins and no further treatment required at this point. All my PSA's have been <0.01, effectively zero. However, I was left with @ 30% of the nerve bundle and so far, 13 months post op, no joy as far as natural erections. So I have been injecting for 9 months and after lots of hesitation and reading,(thanks Frank Talk) I asked to be put on the implant list.

After reading more about implants and hearing from some of you fellas, I did ask my doc which implant he uses and he was very candid about the Coloplast and AMS models. In his opinion the Coloplast is a toy and the company wouldn't supply him with a demo unit to show his patients and compare the two side by side. He feels the construction and design isn't up to the standards of the AMS and he uses the LGX pretty much exclusively. I am concerned when I read of issues with this model from some of you but my options aren't great and as time goes by not getting better.

BTW, I'm a Canadian and our medical system has restrictions on doctors being compensated by pharmaceutical companies.

Well, I guess I haven't run into anyone yet I thought was a plant. I know 3 guys personally who have had implants, all are happy with them. I know a lady who worked as an assistant to a urologist who did implants, her father was one of the guys I know. Her info to me was all positive, a few guys with an infection, an occaisonal malfunction, but overall, she felt 95% plus were complete success stories. My doctor, who I trust, told me much the same. He had been doing them for 15 years when I first started discussing this with him. He had had one unit fail that had to be replaced, he had one he had to go back in and trim the tubing a bit, he'd had a couple of infections, and no removals.

The guys on here I've talked with I'm sure are implantees. There are things only an owner of these could relate to. When I made my decision to proceed a year ago, there were 2 recent implantees that I got a lot of good info from. There was also one guy with an unacceptable result, and he used a famous surgeon! My guy doesn't specialize in implants, but he came highly recommended as a surgeon from an anesthesiologist who sees him work all the time. I'm a skeptical kind of guy (Viet Nam era, don't trust any establishment), but I personally think the guys here are the real deal. Is it possible? Sure. It's also possible that a non citizen can be elected president. Not probable, but possible. I think I could detect the horn blowing, though. I have a pretty good BS detector.

One last thing. An implant is NOT a LAST RESORT!!! It is a choice of treatments. Pills still worked for me sometimes, the vacuum pump gave me a good erection, just no feeling, shots worked very well, only failing maybe 1 time out of 10. I just wanted it to be like it used to be. When I roll over next to mama and decide to get romantic, I want to be able to do it without getting out of bed, taking a pill, getting my pump, or giving myself a shot. Talk about a mood killer! To me, that was not acceptable, I felt the risks involved with surgery were worth the possible results. So far, I feel I made the right choice. Last weekend, we had sex at night, after several drinks (which would be a 100% woody killer), and it was great. So good, we did it again when we woke up the next morning. I had not done that in probably 15 years. I don't think anyone using a pump would want to do that, and if you use shots or pills, you aren't supposed to do that, you would have to wait at least 24 hours. Advantage - implant. It wasn't my only choice, it was my best choice!

A couple of other things that were mentioned in these posts.

WebMD. I don't think that is evidence of plants as much as how effective search engines are. The google bot is constantly in here. If you want to see how effective it is, do a google search on my id, dave48003. It will bring you here to my posts and pictures.

I already forgot the second one! :)
