How active will I be 18 days after implant?

Postby oldbeek » Thu Mar 22, 2018 10:00 pm

I compete in pointing dog trials which requires that I follow my dog at a fast pace (almost a run) for 30 minutes. No running with a shotgun but speed walking is OK. This is done on rolling hill terrain.
My question? What will be my comfort zone be 18 days after implant? I probably know the answer all ready. Should I plan on doing this or not?

I would not. At 18 days I was in the recliner freezing my dick and balls. You will be weight restricted to about 8 lbs. Walking at a slow pace was doable. Even though it basicly it is outpatient surgery but it is still a pretty major surgery. Give you body time to recuperate and heal . Unless you are in the running to be a national champion skip the ccompetion there will be others. If you are in the running tgen postpone the surgery a couple of weeks. Your dick will still be broke.

How quickly one recovers from surgery varies quite a bit from patient to patient. Also the surgeon's skill can make a difference.

Another major factor will be what your condition was before surgery. If you are a biathlete, you might be just fine. If a 60 year-old office worker, not so much. Since you are probably a regular outdoorsman, I bet you could do it. But you might regret it for a few days after. There is a bit of a chance you might slow your post-trials recovery. ESPECIALLY if you should trip.

Consult your surgeon.

There is a phrase, "better safe than sorry." Your recovery is unknown until it happens. Some guys possibly could do it, but I would venture a guess more could not do it comfortably. I would personally plan on not doing it.

This surgery is like a combo dick surgery and hernia surgery. They cut your scrotum and your penis and stuff in the implant but they poke a hole into your abdomen to place the reservoir. You need to consider bkeeding/swelling that may occur that could take weeks to resolve. Never forgetting the other cutting that needs to heal. Then the body needs to adjust to tolerate the new gear. Would you do this trial right after a hernia repair? Then there is the rest of the surgery and recovery. You should consult your Dr. Perhaps the idea of postponing the surgery is best if the trial is that important to you. A couple weeks postponement gets you everything you desire.

Thanks for the replies guys. You confirmed my my thoughts. I have a regional dog of the year to run May 26. I had better concentrate on healing to be ready for that. It is a 1 hour endurance run.

Old Geek, I wish you luck but 18 days out I could not have done an hour of almost running without serious repercussions. I would feel great and then over do things and suffer for it. Be careful with your decision because you will pay whatever the consequence happens to be. Good luck and take care of yourself.

Was 69 at operation, exercise 4 to 5 days a week. Ride stationary bike for 30 minutes, brisk walk about 40 minutes and lift weights. Doctor told me to take 2 weeks off and take it easy the third week.

Listen to your body as we all heal differently. Good luck.
