Sounds like I need to ask my urologist about the pumping pre-op...
I’ve only used the cheapo sex toy pumps so far... guessing I should be looking for a medical version. Anyone got some tips on which to buy and where? found a few on Amazon but the run pretty expensive.

The medical grade VEDs are fine, but the "novelty" shop ones also work. A vacuum is a vacuum, after all.

The differences lie in how long the device will last, how easy it is to install constriction rings (which is of no concern if you are not intending to use if for sex) and other peripheral details.

After all, vacuum is vacuum, no matter how it is produced.

Medical grade ones often have a safety valve to prevent too high a vacuum which can cause damage to your penis.

A vacuum bell from a cheap sex-shop attached to an automotive vacuum pump (as used for evacuating hydraulic systems) can be assembled for about $50 and it includes a gauge.

Just to follow up on what Jim said ... what kind of pump are you using? ... Yes the amount of vacuum makes a difference.

Since the pump is your last resort ... build yourself one like in the image = about $37 at Amazon (links below)

Once you find a ring that fits and holds your pumped erection (should last about 30 min.) ... try several different methods, like folding the ears of the ring up into the pump tube and pump. Have your wife participate ... let her pump you up sometimes.

I bought a vacuum erection device on Ebay for about $50. It has a pump, a cylinder (get the right size based on your girth) and a gauge so you know how much pressure you are using. I started at 5hg of pressure, and that's probably as much as you want to start. I do more now for short periods.

I had a medical grade pump, but that was when I was using the VED with constriction rings for sex. If you're just trying to stretch in advance of implant surgery, you don't need the constriction rings. IMO, the gauge on the pump is more important.

General thinking is that you should stretch with the ved for at least 2 months before the implant.

Not true. I bought a cheap one at a sex store called Aren't We Naughty. It is working just fine. As long as it pumps you up, it's doing what the study wants.

I can't believe some of the comments. Even the odd Rolls Royce can have a hiccup... take it back and get another or your money back.

I've had/have both medical grade and novelty pumps. IMO there is a very big difference in quality, as there should be with the price difference. The novelty pump may do the job satisfactorily and meet your needs. Most of the novelty pumps are way cheaper. But there is a big quality difference and there may also be a difference in easy of use and comfort. I've had to repair one of my novelty pumps twice and another I had to modify to make it useful. Try a novelty pump if you wish. You're not out much money if you aren't satisfied.

I could understand wanting to spend big bucks if you were pumping for sex but, I am just pumping for the sake of pumping. At the store I got mine, there were lots of models that were a lot less money. Basically, the one I got was the best of the non-medical grade models they sold. I often wondered how this would work if I used it in the bath tub and filled it with water??? There is one called the bathmate that looks interesting but, a lot more money.
