Hey Guys,
It has now been about four weeks post-op, 12th of March will be four weeks, and Homer and the boys are doing well with their new guests who have become a part of their family. The scrotum swelling is down from the size of a large grapefruit, I had a very low hanging scrotum prior to surgery, to now the size of a soft ball. My left nut is now settled back at the bottom of the sack with the right nut to soon follow, I am sure. The soreness in Homer is gone for the most part now that I don't have to keep him pointing up all the time. However, he is still rather numb most of the time.
But the biggest problem I am having is the intense itching at night in bed. I know some of it was coming from my bush growing back in but that is just about past that point now. I have two cuts, one in the scrotum which has not been a problem with itching much at all and the other cut was made above Homer in the bush area. That is the one that is driving me nuts. I can deal with it during the day and in fact I don't think it itches near as much during the day. But when I get in bed to sleep that is another story. I do sleep in the nude which is something I have done for years and for a while the sheet lighting touching the bush hair drove me crazy but that has now passed for the most part as well as it grows out more.
At this point in time the itching is located completely around the incision area above Homer. It looks great, no redness, no discharge of any kind and no swelling as it heals. I also know that itching is a part of the healing process many times and I am so thankful for the healing process to be taking place as it is. But except for one or two nights, I have not been able to sleep through the night as the itching is so bad it wakes me up scratching myself like crazy and I have to get up so I don't wake my wife up. And besides, with all the itching, I cannot go back to sleep. When this happens I need to take a long hot shower. I need to set in the tube and let the shower head message my body, especially Homer and the cut above him until I run out of hot water and need to stop. I then can put on my bathrobe but it needs to remain open so Homer and the cut above him can air dry and cool down. Then after about two hours or so I am able to lie on the couch and sleep until my wife gets up. Eighty percent of the itching stops by the end of the shower and by the end of the cooling off period ninety percent of the itching is gone which lets me fall asleep again. When I lay back down I don’t need to put any anti-itch cream on and I sleep fine.
I am applying anti-itch cream before bed but by the three or so hour mark of sleep I am awake itching once again. And getting up to re-apply more ant-itch cream again at that point does not help, only the shower helps. And in fact I can’t go to sleep at bedtime unless I do apply the anti-itch cream before bed.
I went the drug store two days ago and asked them if there was something that would help and they suggest using the spray for sun burns as it has Lidocain in it and that will numb the area that it is sprayed on. Well the first night it seemed to help as I woke up at 4:30 but only for a pee call and then I was able to go back to sleep as there was very little itching. However, last night I also put it on and went to bed but woke up this morning at 3:30 trying to scratch the hair off my bush around the cut area. So I got up and did the whole shower thing again. I have been up now for about three hours and I am now to the point where the couch is looking rather good.
I don’t know if any of you guys have gone through this intense itching during sleep time but I need help in what to try, I just want to sleep once again through the night.
Thanks,
Den

Re: Intense Itching
Hey Den, glad you are healing well. Three common answers are appropriate: normal. Some areas itch more than others, but one month seems a little late for that. Yeast. Not common but could be...try Diflucan oral or Monistat cream in the area of the incision, any redness, and in the cracks and folds of the scrotum if there is itching, redness or excoriation. Suture reactions although rare are more common in the genital area, and may be deep in absorbable stitches are used. Hope this helps. Thanks for the update. I tried Balmex once but it was no help.
Re: Intense Itching
This happened to me too at about the same time. It went away after a few days. It was just another phase of the healing for me. I used an ice pack to help try and take the intense itching feeling away. Helped a little bit, but good luck.
