Ya know, if I were a surgeon, I wouldn't even offer a choice. It's a medical decision, not Burger King. If something goes wrong and the patient decides to sue, what do you think that the jury will think when the doctor says "well, it's what the patient wanted"?? There is a reason he/she went to medical school

I agree - to a certain extent. The patient who ignores his surgeon's counsel is a fool. But the surgeon who ignores my thoughts/opinions/feelings is not a surgeon I want to operate on me.
I consider myself an essential part of my medical team's decision-making process. I think the other members of my medical team should see me the same way.
