Hi people,
Just a question re: activation and perhaps cycling.
There seems to be such divergence between doctors and their instructions for the patient re: time to activation and cycling?
You have Drs like Eid advocating cycling pretty much first week and then others saying activate at 6 weeks.
Why? And what’s commonly regarded as ideal?
Thanks!

Re: Why such varying instructions re: Activation date
I am a patient of Dr.Eid my surgery was on a Friday I was activated on Monday morning three days later and started cycling that Monday twice a day in the bath tub pumped till the pump ball was to hard to squeeze at first it was 18 pumps by the end of the week it was 25 the next week 30 then 35 the following by week 4 I was doing 40 after the end of the fourth week DrEids office told me that I would not need to cycle any more if I was using it twice a week. Yesterday I took a bath and I managed to pump it 48 good pumps till it was steel rod hard with no pain after 20 minutes. I sent Dr Eid a text to ask him how much was the max that I could pump to be said that a 20 cm cylinder set will hold 75 cc of saline and a full pump completely squeezed top to bottom was equivalent to 3 cc’s he said that an Installed implant is almost impossible to get a full pump in and that what I was at was close to if not at the max . Any dr that is having his patients wait 6 weeks is not looking out for The best interest of his patients . I was having sex at 21 days without any problems and I don’t see what It is that he does that is so special other than a very small incision and surgical glue. Why can’t other docs do the same. Tomorrow I will be 6 weeks post op and I feel completely healed

Perfect answer Dave. The difference is in training. Many of these docs are using 20 or 30 year old premed methods that they learned long ago and have no clue what the modern implant does or does not do. So their patients just suffer from the mind blowing ignorance year after year. I just had my pump moved Tues and will jump into a hot soothing bath tomorrow to enjoy a good soak and use my VED. All because I convinced dr Kata to use glue and a waterproof bandage instead of barbaric stitches which poke infection inviting holes through your skin. I think he only did it because of my past keloid disease. He seemed to be worried that I would burst open and bleed to death. So far so good. I do appreciate his concern.
The AMS video says to cycle once the first week and then increases steadily thereafter. Docs are much happier when they know you are not going to bother them for 6 weeks post op over normal cycling issues and questions.
Here's a funny one I'm scheduled on the 17th to meet with a tech to show me how to cycle my implant. That I've had 4 months already. I asked why then said never mind. You have to put up with some cookie cutter procedures and save your breath for important issues. Besides my first pump gave me nothing but grief so maybe this guy will give me some pointers. Looking forward to it.

Guys you need to read My Journal by Merrix.............
the thread is on page 2.
You need to develop a longer term view......2 weeks, 3 weeks, 6 weeks?
they are irrelevant time frames when this process is more like an 18 month journey.

Re: Why such varying instructions re: Activation date
First implant doctor did not let me activate for four weeks. On revision I was fifteen years older and the doctor did not let me activate or cycling until six weeks because I had trouble with the incision that was made just below the penis and the scrotum. The stitches were removed premature at four weeks and when I tried to pump it up, the incision opened up about quarter inch in length. So I had to wait another two weeks for it to heal completely before he gave me the green light to start using it. Was very satisfied with everything for twenty months, THEN the MS pump failed. Having it replaced 1-11-19. I did not want surgery during the holidays.
So I guess some doctors allow the cycling before your incision is even healed up. I can not believe that a person would be healed up in a week or two. Not on a three piece implant.

Re: Why such varying instructions re: Activation date
If the incision were just in the scrotum, would there be an issue with inflating early?
I understand if the incision were in the shaft, then pulling and stretching the skin with inflation could cause things to open up. But if it were only in the scrotum itself, surely then that wouldn't be an issue.

Re: Why such varying instructions re: Activation date
I don’t understand all the different methods available I guess. I had my implant installed November 7th. Today is December 12 and I’m still not allowed to touch until I see the doctor on December 21. Single vertical incision along base of penis and scrotum, titan implant. Not that I would have wanted to touch it during the first 3 weeks as pain was significant. Scrotum has swelled and hardened, incision yielded some scabbing and all the while I’m 60% inflated and have trouble wearing anything other than sweatpants.
What procedure allows for activation within a few days, how exactly is it done? It’s either something radically different from what I had or y’all a bunch of iron men who fight through the pain. My urologist is relatively young, does about 100 of these a year, had reps from both manufacturers there that day, and most importantly, I trust him. He performed my robot prostate removal and saved my life.
So what is it that’s so different?

Re: Why such varying instructions re: Activation date
Hey AtlanticFalcon, I had my implant installed on Nov 7 also. I was also put on strict orders to NOT play until December 21. Cycling is going very good. The end third of my little buddy is still sore and tender. I feel too tender to experiment yet. I had an appointment yesterday and the Dr said all is going perfect and that my soreness and tenderness will slowly go away.

Re: Why such varying instructions re: Activation date
Hi Richard. It’s good to hear of someone in the exact situation. I can’t wait until the 21st so I can deflate it. Six weeks with a semi hard penis is cumbersome to say the least.
Re: Why such varying instructions re: Activation date
My surgery was on Friday my activation was the next Monday Unless the surgeon used a dull chainsaw and a hammer and chisel I can not believe it takes 4-6 weeks to activate .
