So for I have no complaint about this doctor. After surgery he gave me his personal phone number so that I could either text or call him with any questions or concerns. He has been very honest and he seems to care about his patients.

Wow! My insurance showed 53k billed by the hospital and two separate charges totally about 6k by the urologist's office. Almost 60k through insurance for my surgery! ...And my doctor in DFW (Plano TX) is not a high-volume implanter (he has a regular practice and Healthgrades shows he's 71th percentile for penile implants, compared to his peers). Dr. Allen Morey in DFW is 98th percentile (high volume) penile implant surgeon. I can only imagine what it would cost for Morey to do an implant through insurance.

Don't let the insurance bill fool you. They only paid the 19K price. They negotiate huge discounts that they'll NEVER tell you how much they really paid.
I have some generic drugs that I take. My insurance co-pay is a little higher than the over the counter price at Wal-Mart. The only way to save, for me anyway, is to use the insurances own mail order pharmacy. Then I pay 1 co-pay for 3 months of medicine.
Just remember, literally every price an insurance company quotes to you is phony.

That’s the truth, my insurance is the same way. I have to use express scrips for on going prescriptions or I get charged the full amount of my insulin. Insurance companies are something else. Any way the can save dollar they will do , including to charge full price for a prescription if you don’t use there perfered pharmacy.

Insulin is a perfect example. I'm type 2. I do use insulin. I've given up on getting insulin through my insurances online pharmacy. I can buy a vial of fast insulin & a vial of slow insulin at Wal-Mart for well under $60. That will last about 5 weeks. Just for the slow insulin, insurance costs me $80. That will last about 11 weeks. The Wal-Mart vials are bigger than the handy dandy pens. To cover the missing 12th week, I have to call & get an early refill. No prescription needed at Wal-Mart, they'll sell me all that I want when I want it.
Pharmaceutical companies tinker with the formula every few years so that the patent protection gets extended. Wal-Mart bought the patent to a one or two generations older insulins. There is a slim chance that it isn't ideal for everyone. But thousands of diabetics survived on it for years. I test my glucose several times a day. In my case, the change wasn't noticable. Geez, one of the pharmacists at my local Wal-Mart uses it.
