Pain at submuscular reservoir site?

I am 3 days out of surgery and I also had searing pain in that area. I removed the drain tube today and most of the pain has subsided.

I know it’s been a while since originally posted but I also had a resivor placement sub muscular and I’m pretty lean in that are. I had double hernia with mesh years earlier and Dr was afraid to go thru mesh. This is my only regret with my surgeon. He did tell me however that it would show. He used a 110 cc resivor to oversize it so it could flatten out more but still shows terribly! If and when I get a revision I will find a Dr that will put it inside me where it won’t show. It was very painful for 6-8 weeks but after that and even today it presents no problem at all just the ugly bulge right on my belt line. Crinkles and can feel the thing all the time but zero pain.

I am just wondering : If it is moved to the area inside of you, behind your penis (where the reservoirs are sometimes placed) , is there a chance that it could come in conflict with your prostate and the area that an enlarging prostate has to expand into ?

Not a professional but never heard of any issues or conflict with prostate. There’s a lot of stuff between the front of your abdomen and your prostate.

I've never had any idea where my reservoir is. Obviously haven't had any pain there.

Me too. I have no idea. I suspect it’s on the left since i had some soreness there post surgery. Thought it might be gas, but i’m guessing that was it. No pain from reservoir at all.

Direct contact with the prostrate isn’t likely. Although rare, the most likely conflict with a Space of the Retzius reservoir placement is settling in against the bladder. If that happens the pressure on the bladder causes frequent urges to urinate.

A Google search for “ ectopc vs. space of retzius reservoir placement” will bring up a multitude of research papers on the topic.

I wanted to close this thread out as well after around 100 days postop.

I continued to have pain at the reservoir site for a few weeks. It was incredibly effing painful immediately postop and then slowly improved to pain free after a few weeks.

I can still easily palpate it on my left side although it's not visible - feels like a beanbag or bubblewrap when I push on it - but no pain.

Anyway, just wanted those who come behind me to get the benefit of this post. I got a lot of help looking at old posts when making my decision to go ahead and do this and then postop as well.

Finally had sex for the first time Christmas Day 2022 and was an amazing experience after months/years of failures and decades of expecting to fail.

Hi, i have two inguinal hernia mesh so they will probably have to do the ectopic placement. I am lean and i have a six pack. Do you think the reservoir will be a problem for this reason?
