Yes, VEDs are safe and effective to use after an implant. There's a sufficient amount of clinical research studies that instruct men to follow rather aggressive cycling and VED directions that find consistent results of men getting their original size back or increasing the size while having negligible or nonexistent amounts of problems.
There's also enough anecdotal proof from dudes like me around here and elsewhere who used VEDs almost every day for a year after getting my implant, and at no point did anything feel unsafe or breakable, and at the end it worked like expected.
I believe the general wisdom here is they're not required to use after because you can get the same effects but it takes a little longer. If you don't want to use a VED after, take that route and good luck.
Using one before might almost be required, though. If you've lost size from age or ED or both or from anything else, VEDs fix the damaged tissues so the surgeon can give you the largest cylinders that best meet you real, natural and maximum erections from your good ole days as a horny 22 year old.. That's too good to pass up.
If you're okay with using one, it will work safely and efficiently. If you're not, you can buy one for cheap and see if you'll get used to it (you will). If you're still not, you keep doing you and doing it yourself can surely work also.

Re: Recommendations on VED
I have a Rigicon mallabble and was told by my dr. not to use a VED after being implanted. He said there is a danger of stretching the penile tissue out and ending up with a floppy head.

I've heard people say this and I'm wondering - so this is only about malleables? What makes them different?

Re: Recommendations on VED
The rods are sized to the inside dimensions of your cock if done properly. Meaning you get a firm erection including the head or glans. I was told if you use a ved you can stretch your cock where the glans could become floppy sine it might come off of the rods. With the IPP implants there is more room and as they expand they fill different areas .. more room to have a little more "give" in your cock tissue. Another dr. might have a totally different opinion, my dr. is the largest implanter of mallabble implants in the country. He does 100's of implants a year of all type beside repairs and revisions.
