18 days post surgery- Antibiotics knocked out the infection. I'm grateful to my wife who is an RN. She had me call for antibiotics when I didn't even know I was infected. She saw a slight drainage from the surgery site. Because she took such quick action, I didn't need to go through a salvage surgery.
My scrotum which was grapefruit size is not almost back to normal size. Last week when I went from 50mg daily of oxycodone down to nothing in a single day, I discovered I'd become dependent. I went through the days of hell as I withdrew from oxycodone cold turkey. Now I'm off all pain meds.
I'll wait about 4-5 weeks to go in for pump activation. It's been a extremely difficult 2 weeks. At week 3 I'm probably were most people are at week 2. When my Surgeon saw me at the end week one, he told me I'd need to delay activation an extra 2-3 weeks. So I'll probably wait 7-8 weeks post surgery. I don't want to drive 180 miles only to find pain stops me from inflating and deflating my implant. At this point try as a might, I can't feel the release button.
The one thing that bothers me is the feel of the cylinders on each side of my penis. They seem so large they will tear something if they are extended. I'm going to assume this is simply a worry. The other thing I notice and I wonder if this is temporary or permanent is that my scrotum feels somewhat normal everywhere except below the surgery line where it is rock hard.
At three weeks post surgery my scrotum is almost back to normal size, there is little to no pain, and I've completed my withdrawal to oxycodone. While it's been a much more difficult surgery to bear that I originally anticipated, the worst is over and I'm on the mend.
After my trip to San Francisco for activation my wife and I are driving to Half Moon Bay for a romantic day and night on the coast. I can't wait.
An Infection After Surgery
Re: An Infection After Surgery
RR, I'm new on this site and have read your posting thread with interest. I'm glad you have overcome the infection and oxy addiction. I have a half bottle full of them but they scare me... they make me feel too good so I leave the lid on and deal with the post-op discomfort.
I could especially relate to your concern about the feel of the penile cylinders. Me too. I'm 4 weeks post-implant and still semi inflated. And the cylinders hurt a bit everywhere, but especially right under the glans. Very sore there, it feels like with one more pump they will burst right on through. Tho I hope that's not true since with this semi I am barely 2/3 of my pre-implant length. So there should be plenty of room for expansion. Its just sore though.
My 6 week activation date is March 4 and I'm both excited and scared. At my 2 week checkup the dr. tried to deflate me some and it hurt and I yelled and he stopped. I hope next try goes smoother. Anyway, I just wanted to check in and wish you luck.

RP: Sept. 2011, pathology: small tumor, 3+3, fully contained. One nerve removed, the other badly damaged, result: near total ED. PSA 3 years out: undetectable. AMS 700 LGX implant: 1/21/15. Current status (3/4/15): Now bionic, working on restoring size.
Re: An Infection After Surgery
Greywolf,
You are VERY wise to stay away from oxy especially when they "make you feel good" that effect has to potential to add a psychological piece to the addictive problem.
It's interesting that you are also concerned about the feel of the penile cylinders. I still worry what that's going to feel like when they are expanded via inflation.
I recently read a study by a group of Urologists who were of the belief that earlier activation might increase girth and size. They discovered that the issue of pain in early activation prevented them from doing the study as something like 90% or more of the men stopped the activation to due to pain. They tried activation in the 2nd week post surgery.
You are three days ahead of me with activation so I hope you'll come back to this thread and share your experiences, as I intend to share mine. This much I do know, I'm a stomach sleeper and I'm still having scrotal pain sleeping on my stomach. I have to position a pillow under me so I can prevent my scrotum from making contact with the bed. I haven't had a good night sleep since surgery 3.5 weeks ago.
Given everything that's gone wrong so far, I'm simply not expecting a simple, easy activation. It would be nice if that turns out wrong, but my experience so far has taught me to expect the unexpected.
One question for anyone out there-How long does it take for the self absorbing stitches to absorb. Mine are still very visible, and I wonder if somehow during my time of being infected and swollen they got pushed to the outside where they are showing no signs of being absorbed. I'm thinking about pulling them out myself.
