I am sorry for all of these guys' negative experiences with implants (and with doctors who are anti-implants). I have been happy with an implant for almost 15 years, and my wife and I couldn't be happier. Sure, I had to explain it to an ER doctor when I went in with kidney stones (she wondered what the "mass" in my scrotum was, as she did not know anything about inflatable penile implant pumps). But it has never caused me any problems when I have been at the airport since getting the implant. I hope you do not quickly write off this as a possibility. Yes, it is the final solution since it permanently destroys the natural erectile tissue when the implant cylinders are inserted. But I can get hard now and have successful intercourse, so I am happy with it.

Thru the years I have lost count on how many Dr's I have seen
Guessing 10-20 urologist. Think closer to the 20. Almost all in NYC.
Not 1 told me to about an implant.

I asked my regular urologist f he would recommend a urologist that does penile implants.
He was adamant that he would not recommend a Dr that does implants.

I don't know why he was so against it.
Is he making so much a profit from pushing tri-mix and pills?

I don't know. I joined this blog because I could not figure it out why more Dr's did not do the implants.
I was told that VED devices do not work. 1 urologist told me if they worked he would close his practice and sell VED.
I bought it not to become a porn star just to try to keep the length I have left. Would be nice to get some of my old length back.

I am not trying to discourage anyone from going bionic. I just trying to weigh all options and the potential downfalls.
Even a plain aspirin can kill but the odds are do slim that it is disregarded.
What are the odds and the probable outcome.

Thank you
Thinking of getting implant. Have not done it because of the length I
have lost.

If the decision comes down to odds and risks of failed outcome, then the decision is easy I'd say. There is enough statistics to proof that the success rate is high enough.
I think it's rather about deciding whether having the implant successfully installed will give you what you want. Do you prefer that state to what you have now?
If not even a successful result gives you what you need to be happy, then forget it.
But if you feel that having an implant will be clearly better than living with what you have now, then go for it and take the (very small) risk the surgery comes with.

James, I was at an E.D. options presentation and one guy said that his doctor had not told him about any of them. His doctor told him, "Well, if Viagra doesn't work, that's all we've got. Go home." Man, was he pissed to learn about the other options!

I think it has to do with doctors who don't do implants not wanting to refer you because they don't want to lose a patient. :x That, to me, is totally unprofessional. If the doctor truly cares about the patient, then the patient is referred as needed.

I should have said "'was not easy being implanted" to be correct Edzo. For me it was the age it happened at, it was about 3 months before my 18th birthday. So imagine being a good looking high school athlete with penis that is robotic trying to maintain an active dating life with out having high school chicks being weirded out by it in the late 80's. At that age I didn't have the knowledge or wisdom to know that in the end it would be the best thing I could do for myself. Now I can't wait to get my revision done.

What is most difficult for me right now is that I am still active and athletic and I always worry I am going to take a hit (play old boys rugby, hockey and flag football with a bit of contact) and mess up the implant and have to go back in for more surgery. I don't want to give up who I am or what I do but I have to keep my bionics in the back of my mind when I do.

David, thank you
Hi
I agree it is umprofesional. He keeps offering to sell me more tri-mix. Barely works. Then tells me he sells it to porn stars to older men. They love it. 1st time I walked out feeling why doesn't it work on me. Then after another visit and I pressed him about implant Dr I got pissed. What is he making such a good mark up on tri-mix. He sells boner pills to the herbal stuff. Cash.

Yeah I know that everything has risks. Surgery has risks. Possible loss of length I am worried about.

Been trying to explore risks and options.
In NYC dozens of urologist. 3 that are recommended. I guessing maybe 1/2 a dozen do the implant.
Maybe not enough of a profit margin. I imagine most of insurance company's do not cover implant.

Something else years ago another type of procedure for a relative of mine the insurance would not cover it. Was like $400 but was much easier and painless. No recovery time that way. My relative paid for it. Other way insurance co paid like $2500 and it was a more difficult procedure. Office manager told me most people do not want to pay anything out of pocket.
They go for worst procedure that takes 2-3 days recovery.

All boils down to the Benjamin's

I'm about to schedule an implant. I've realized like a lousy heart, my penis has a dysfunctional circulation. So yes like a heart that needs artificial valves so you can live, my penis needs a prosthesis like the heart valve. So like a heart with artificial valves you get a functional heart and. Now a functional penis so your quality of life improves. Simple, I have penis that doesn't pump so therefore surgery. Hope that helps, I'm a 53 yo doctor

Most insurances do cover it, especially if they also cover breast implants after a mastectomy (they improve the quality of life, not required to stay alive -- same as with an implant). I also understand that some doctors' offices will go to bat for you with your insurance company.
