My case is different from yours in that it was a repair (replaced cylinders and pump) not a first install. I needed to be home soon after the surgery because of a serious family illness so I left about 3 hours after surgery. My wife drove and I laid on an air mattress. It was about 13 hours home but it was not bad. I took some pain medicine as a precaution.

Wife and I moved to Santa Rosa Beach two years ago and go back to Atlanta 2/3 times a year to visit kids and grandkids so the drive is not bad 4 lane almost all way and I also have done a lot of flying so they both have pros and cons, will see what the doctor advises on my initial visit

Healing Process?
Since I Had diabetes but now no longer have it due to pancreas transplant I still heal slower than normal, so how would this relate to implant surgery and the healing process? I've had accidents where I needed stitches and healed ok but just took longer than normal

WOW, I didn't know they did pancreas transplants. How come you don't hear about them very much?

I was 39 when I went into kidney failure and dialysis and my doctor suggested because the transplant list was so long for a kidney to opt for pancreas and kidney, I waited almost 3 years and got two young surgeons one from Harvard and the other from Oxford England and at the time 25 years ago the pancreas was experimental but I went with it, I was one of the first successful pancreas transplants done and today my blood sugar still is in the 85-100 range each day, I've got 3 kidneys in me only one works
So that's why I asked about the Healing Process

When you say blood sugar is 85-100 that scares me A LOT. In Canada, normal is 7.5 and below. 85 is dead.

A1C Hemoglobin should be in the single digits.

Blood Glucose should be in 80 to 120. 200 or so right after a meal and if you fall below 40-50, you are probably dead or close to it.

A1C Hemoglobin is an indicator of what your blood glucose has been over the past several months.

Blood Glucose level is a reading of blood sugar within the past few minutes.

A1C Hemoglobin, therefore changes slowly over weeks. Blood Glucose concentration changes minute by minute.

The two numbers are used for different purposes.

Blood Glucose allows a Diabetic person to regulate their activity levels, food intake and medication intake). A1C Hemoglobin tells their Physician/Dietician how well the patient has been regulating their Blood Glucose levels over time.
