I really could do with a chat with you at some point if you're amenable to that?

Absolutely! In fact, I've had a little practice doing chats over the years... I taught in an online course for the University of Central Florida for 18 years. Didn't use cams or anything elaborate. Just me and my students in a chat room! That is until my husband came into my life... then we co-taught. At the end of the semester, students had to submit a summary of their chat experience to the main professor. They didn't know the professor would then pass those reports on to us. More than once a student would say something like, "Colin is the nice one. Jim is... well... Jim is the other one!" :D

Here is a list of side effects and complications of penile implant surgery
SOURCE: ("copied" this from the urologicalcare.com website)

Although the Internal Penile Pump™ procedure is very successful and safe, like any other treatment, there are a few side effects to be aware of.

Infection
The most serious side effect that can occur is an infection . If the infection is located in the skin, an antibiotic usually will solve the problem. If the infection is deeper and affects the Internal Penile Pump™, then it will need to be removed and replaced with a non-infected Internal Penile Pump™.

Malfunction
Malfunction rates are low, less than 5 percent for the first five years. However, all Internal Penile Pump™'s eventually wear out. In general, they will last for 8 to 12 years; like any device, the more it is used, the sooner it will need replacement. However, the Internal Penile Pump™ is easily removed and replaced in the same fashion as the original.

Complications
-Post-operative bleeding, hematoma formation at the site of the reservoir and pump can occur and displace the pump rendering it inaccessible and delaying activation of the device.
-The cylinders can fall out of the penis into the scrotal sac if the opening of the tunica is not closed well.
-The reservoir can also move from the groin into the scrotal sac, much like a hernia if it is not placed correctly.
-Temporary severe pain in the penis for the first week after the surgery and persistent chronic pain for 2 to 3 months in non infected implants can also rarely occur.
-Pain can also be present for longer periods of time if the implant cylinders were over-sized (supposedly to make the penis bigger) or if cross-over of one cylinder into the wrong side of the penis occurred.
-Other problems can happen such as erosion of implant component through the skin if an infected implant is not removed or the device is over-sized.
-Erosion of the implant can also occur into the urethra if the urethra was damaged during the surgery.
-Injury to bladder, small bowel (intestine), colon and even injury to major blood vessels such as aorta, vena cava and artery and vein to the lower extremity although very rare has been reported during placement or removal of the reservoir.

The more experienced the surgeon the less likely a complication will occur. There is no substitute for experience and good judgement.

I understand that you would like to know the exact rate of complications. That number will depend very much on the experience and talent of your surgeon. For example, infection rate is somewhere between 0.5% and 3% depending on who is doing the surgery. The bottom line is that 92% of patients are "satisfied" with their implant, so I suppose your odds are good that you will be happy. However, The possibility of being in that sad 8% group is daunting, especially if you had a penis that was still working before you opted for surgery.
Personally, for me, I followed the sequence Pills---->caverject injections--->QuadMix injections---->QuadMix + cock ring--->implant. By exhausting all possible alternative less invasive modes, I came into surgery knowing that I had no other options, so if I were one of the sad souls with a complication, I would be able to console myself that I gave a valiant effort in a situation with no other good option.

Spot on Tangerine. Like you I advise anyone who asks to try all other options. And I mean all before the last option of an implant. At that point you will"know" as I did the time had come. Now 21 days post op and whilst things have settled down to near normal the last 3 weeks have been brutal at times with only yourself in the main to get through it even with a supportive wife or partner. You can't keep moaning about your Rodger daily. Hover each day gets better/more normal/less aches and twinges.
Now Implanted 9/12/17. 52 years old with ED for over 20 years. Tried all the pills and injections. Update. Implanted with Titan 22 + 1. by DR Ralph Dec 9th London. Now in recovery and at 3 months feeling the journey was worth the pain.

Defiant,
I am just over three months post-op and you can add me to the list of no problems whatsoever. I know I am new to the implant world and realize something is going to happen at some point, but for now I am thrilled.

In general men land here at FT when they have problems and stay here until everything is good again. Therefore the bulk of the posts reflect concerns rather than talking about how great everything is. I am at a point where I no longer am asking so many questions and I don't need advice to help me decide anything, but I feel compelled to stay here to help other guys the way I have been helped by many of my brothers here.

Best wishes my friend.
Greg

I just worry y’know - being relatively young, the need for revisions and what not and the potential effect it might have on my state of mind. The pros are all there to see, however!

Thanks, Greg!
37, mild to moderate ED since age 21, 3 Dopplers - 1 result VL & 3 later results 'no physical problem', dependent on cialis (efficacy now waning), overcame Lymophoma at age 26, ED causing immense/profound psychological distress. Considering implant.

Defiant,

I am almost 5 months post-implant. I am one of the ones that had a problem, and now it is fixed. I'm a little behind schedule, but I agree with Greg completely and anticipate remaining active on FT and being available for other guys who are on this journey.

Re the revisions in your future, I've already had a partial revision and it has been a piece of cake. I'm sure a complete replacement is a much bigger deal than what I am going through. But having been through round one, my fears and anxiety about round two were based on a much better perspective. 17 days post-revision, and my only problems are dealing with the stiffness of my new pump, and some residual soreness in the area when I am squeezing that little bugger. I plan to take the new toy out for a real ride before January 1st, but may be postponed due to my wife's flare up of her herniated discs.

Wish you the best.
