If they're warm and comforting, if they listen to you, have lots of ideas for you, suggestions on test they want to run, those are great things.
If the urologist is cold and rushed and doesn't listen or seem to care about you, huge red flags to go somewhere else.

I was very nervous about coverage. Blue Cross Blue Shield only covers it if there is a physical ailment.
My surgeon never ran any tests. He felt my penis, and my "undercarriage" said there was some scarring that would cause Venous Leakage.
He or his team called my insurance after submitting the request for surgery, they went to bat for me.
That's the big thing. We as patients don't hold weight with insurance.
Doctors can use the big words, and have the knowledge that insurance will listen to.

I got the call a week later that my implant would be covered at 85% or something like that.
I have a bill of $1200 to pay (should probably get to that before they repo it!) The $70k was absorbed by my insurance woot!

Gain knowledge from this site, use that to formulate questions for the urologist.
Vagabond has done a great job with his posts and questions I would search for him and look through his posts to start.

It's a hell of a road but you're on a good path.

We wish you all the best!!!

Was your implant $70K?! I got an "estimate" from one surgeon I was considering and the hospital staff said $28-30k. I'm bringing it up because I'm going out of my insurance "network" and have to pay a portion out of pocket. What's the typical cost?

There is also care credit

Good morning Jack;
I am always telling the members to listen to their doctors and telling members to stop telling other members how things went when they didn't listen to the doctor. And then in another area I talk about all the things the doctor thinks he may know about but really doesn't. I need to clarify what appears to be hypocritical. So as far as timelines immediately following the surgery, we HAVE TO LISTEN TO THE DOCTOR. Sometimes they do things differently. They tweak the procedure, use their favourite sutures, snip here, remove that, etc. Only the doctor is in a position to tell you when to activate, cycle, and score... failure to listen to the doctor could have disastrous results. After we are all healed and are using the implant for sex, WE are the sexperts, not the doctors (unless they have an implant) Sure they may have been trained by the companies, but we are the one that have them and are using them. :)

Thanks for all of the responses! I have come up with a list of the questions I will be going over with the doctor. Talked to the misses about reaching out to talk to a bionic spouse and she was not comfortable... so I’m not going to push the issue. I’ve personally read and seen enough on this forum that I don’t have the slightest hesitation about going forward with the implant.

My only concern remains how quickly the urologist will agree and get the ball rolling. Besides the timeframe I really just want to ask the questions to get a warm and fuzzy from the doc so I know he is aware of the issues and complications I am reading about in here... mainly how many he’s done, how long he takes to complete to reduce the risk of infection, and the sizing questions I’m reading about in the floppy head thread.

I was planning to ask if they could perform a vasectomy while they are fixing the plumbing. I also wondered if having a testicle removed during the procedure was an option? Don’t need em and I’ve read some posts about pinching and real estate issues with the pump. Has anyone already asked or had one removed?

Doctors do not usually remove healthy tissue without ome good reason. So tge defsult would e to keep both resticles intact.

I asked on FrankTalk about having a Vasectomy at the same time as the implant and was advised against it by several people, arguing that if there were any complications it might be hard to sort out which operation was the cause and interactios with scar tisses, etc might be problematic. Overcautios, in my opinion.

So, I asked my surgeon. He did not see any problem, but also said he would only decide on th vasectomy AFTER my scrotum was open and the implant was done. Absent contraindication, he did do the vassectomy.

Perhaps I am being over opimistic that a 69 year old man might actually bed a wonan in her fertile years, but hope springs eternal ;)

They probably could do the vasectomy no problem.

You do not want to remove a testicle  Yes you DO need them. Getting the vasectomy means you don't want your tadpoles to find their way up into your woman. BUT the testicles also produce the hormone testosterone. So unless you are planning a sex change to become a woman, you want both of those Easter eggs pumping out testosterone.

Freddie
Hate to disagree my son in law had testicle cancer had to have one removed. My youngest grand daughter was born after one was removed. So you do not need both to produce. But to routinely remove from for the pump I dont see it unless they are extremely large and sac extremely small. In that case there would be issues with or with out the implant

Unless you've been 'snipped' like many older men. You are still quite capable if producing children with one testicle. Removing one for cosmetic reasons is is ludicrous, unless your a stripper. A we'll placed pump, like mine, is hardly noticable. Only someone touching your scrotum would know. I'm proud of my third nut.
