Why?... can you imagine if your paralyzed or numb from the waist down and are fully aware while they are doing your implant? But can't speak?.. NO..... No..... No.....

That is why it matters to me!!
TT

That statement makes no sense...if you have a spinal from the waist down.... you would be able to talk.... best thing for you to do is discuss this with your Doctor.

I'm a financial advisor, and many years ago I worked with an anesthesiologist as a client. After I got all of his data and saw how much money he earned I joked to him that that sure was a lot of money to be paid just to put people to sleep. I've never forgotten his reply -- "I dont get paid to put people to sleep; I get paid a lot of money to make sure they wake up." Struck me at the time, and I've always thought of that whenever I've had surgery.

Hi Hugh;
It's not an exact science and each on e has their own way of doing things. Some believe in just giving you enough to keep you under but you wake up quicker which is easier on the patient on the ventilator. Others give you a lot to make sure that you don't wake up while they are still operating. I have been in the OR and seen these decisions first hand. It's actually an interesting occupation and they usually get it right but sometimes..... ummmmm, not so much ;)
