This math is completely false and misleading. When you put two circles side by side, they don’t make one big circle of double the diameter. At best, you have a “race-track” oval shape.

For 21mm cylinders this race track is about 4.25” around.

= pi x D + 2D
= D(pi+2)
= 21mm x 5.14 = 107.97mm = 4.25 inches.

This is for two cylinders touching, which is of course an abstraction of reality, since real girth will be more than this.
