Re: The Rite of Passage has begun
Hi Dennis, I'm really sorry to hear that.
As I get closer to my implant surgery on 01/12/2015, I'm sure that's the last thing I wanted to hear.
But, I'm sure you'll be able to try again once you get healed!! My doc told me that if someone gets an infection there's an alternative procedure to put in an semi rigid implant and try the inflatable device again after 4 or 6 months. Or another alternative was to leave the penis alone for 3-4 months and use a penile pump to keep the penis stretched. Once you are all healed, you could try the implant again.
Don't get discouraged. I'll keep praying for you!! You will get thru this.

There is several members here who had infections and got replacement three piece implants that have gone well. Hang in and take it day by day.

I am sixty-six years of age and dealing with gradually worsening ED for twenty years. At sixty-three I wanted something that worked reliably. I got an AMS 700 LGX implant in 6/25/13. I am entirely pleased with the outcome. My surgeon was Dr. Karpman.
Re: The Rite of Passage has begun
I do not see an emiticon for tears. Praying for you.
LGX 21cm .Milam 01/13/16. Horror; both service and surgical outcome. hated infrapubic installation. Kramer revision 03/01/17. 22cm Titan +1.5cm extender. Those who think their opinion is the only one that matters are a danger to themselves and others.
Re: The Rite of Passage has begun
stkman here,
I'm feeling for you brother. Stay strong, regroup and go at it again.

First,, I want to thank all of you who wrote in with your support. It means a lot to me.
Sunday 28 Dec Day 59
I’ve started this entry a number of times, in my mind. I’m having a hard time both in thinking about my situation and in keeping my spirits up. I haven’t succeeded on the latter point.
To put things in a nutshell as a sort of review:
• Had a Titan implant placed on Thursday 30 October with no apparent complications.
• Had moderate pain for the next six weeks without the need for anything stronger than ibuprofen.
• Had off and on seepages from the incision which the doctor said had healed and he couldn’t see any problem.
• Had a fever for two days with brownish puss leaking (Fri-Sun 12 to 14th Dec)
• Had implant removed due to serious local infection which became systemic (Sun 14 Dec)
• Was told by the surgeon, due to extent of the infection , he couldn’t due a “salvage,” nor even a malleable implant.
• Was treated with IV antibiotics while they waited for the blood and puss cultures to tell them what the particular bug was.
• Was released from the hospital the following Friday. Note: After removing the parts and treating the areas for infection, he sewed the sac with non-dissolvable stitches. I was to return the following Tuesday for removal.
• Due to continued pain and scrotal swelling, I called a friend who is a deputy head at another hospital, and she arranged for me to see the head of the urology department Sunday evening (21 Dec)
• Was admitted to the hospital, they did a CT of the area and initially found an object that was not supposed to be in the sac. I was later told that it was just “calcifications.”
• Was scheduled or an exploratory operation late Monday since they do infections after they operate on others.
• Monday afternoon the doctor decided that they could do a “procedure” rather than use the operating room, in the ward’s treatment room. The difference I see between the two was that in an operating room a lot of people would be involved (expensive) and I’d be knocked out. In the treatment room there was just the doctor and a nurse from the ward and me.
I got up on the table, lay back and spread my legs. He took his scissors, and without any anesthesia or numbing medicine, cut open the stitches and sewn area, stuck his gloved finger into the hole in the sac, and wiped out a pocket of abscess that had also shown up on the CT. He then left the opening as is, stuffed it with some antibiotic cloth material and covered it with gauze and some surgical underpants.
He said he didn’t understand why the previous doctor didn’t leave it open, as he did, to let it heal from the inside out.
Until I see him in four weeks, I have to shower four times a day, actually spraying water into the slit while wiping any residue therein with my finger. Just imagine (1) having an open gash in your sac, and (2) sticking your finger in it (it goes in up to the first joint in my finger). I will know it’s better if the depth into which I can stick my finger gets shallower. After the shower, I place a gauze pad over the slit just under the penis, and put on a pair of gauzy disposable underpants sold for use generally for women. These “undies” barely cover my “tush” since they are designed for people who don’t have penises or sacs. But, they suffice as long as I’m not doing a lot of walking.
So, what do I have now?
• I have a shrunken penis which my current surgeon says may get smaller (oh joy and bliss!!).
• I have a giant hunk of scar tissue in my scrotum on the right side that I don’t know from whence it came or what will happen with it.
• I have a tough leathery scrotum with an opening in it (oh, no testicles are in this open area, in case you were wondering)
• I have a deep fear of another operation cutting open my scrotum.
• I have depression.
Other than all that, I’m in great shape. My scrotum is the smallest it has been since 31 October. The final opening and manual wiping of it brought it back to a somewhat normal size.
I now have to figure how to contact one of the specialist in the States (to whom I should have gone in the first place) to see if I am a good candidate for another implant. Any suggestions?

Each of us with good results will recommend our own surgeon. Since I'm the first to reply, let me put in a vote for Andrew Kramer at the U of MD Medical Center in Baltimore ((410) 328-0800). He did my implant and is one of the best.
Dave, 80, Maryland - Implant (Titan) 2008 by Dr. Andrew Kramer (failed Sept 2020) - never used due to a stroke that, among other things, ended my sex life.

My surgeon is Edward Karpman in Mountain View, California. He is well regarded and told me he does quite a few repairs of other surgeons' work. HebrewHammer is a surgeon who traveled across the U.S. to him and is very pleased.

Sabaone, there aren't adequate words in the human language for me to express how bad I feel for you. It wouldn't be a bad idea to talk to a lawyer about your situation to see if you are entitled to legal compensation for malpractice.
That aside, I read your entire journal and perhaps missed it if you mentioned where you live. I don't know how close you are to southern California but I've heard and read a lot of good things about the Center for Reconstructive Urology in Irvine, CA. Here's the website: https://www.centerforreconstructiveurology.org/
Please keep us informed on how you are getting on. Please.

Sabaone, all of my thoughts are with you. I am so far beyond sorry for what has happened to you. I honestly think about you often.
Others have mentioned it, but I recommend Dr. Karpman. He does great work, and is used to reconstructions. There are other fantastic surgeons in the US, I just have personal experience with him. An honestly good guy that genuinely cares about you as a person mentally and physically as well. He gets that our cocks are important to us. Great surgical technique to boot based on my research.
Again though, there are a myriad of other great docs in the US. I would call a few offices and send over your info and see which doc you mesh with the best over the phone maybe. Make sure they have your case and have reviewed it at the phone consult.
I am so so so sorry.
