time to pick a doc

Hi Brothers. After 4 years of putting up with the side effects of radical prostatectomy(RP), pumps, injections and nothing at all for a couple of years now, I'm starting to think seriously about the implant. This leaves me with trying to figure out who the best docs are, who has- among other qualities- vast experience, and low infection rates. I live down south, but as long as they take Medicare, I am willing to travel most anywhere for the best. This is one thing you really, truly want an expert for, and someone up to date on the latest advances, techniques and equipment. I am not having this done locally, even if someone in town actually does it.

So far, I have found info on a Dr. Eids way up in NY. And I will travel up there if he is as excellent as he appear to be and there is no equal closer. He has done well more than 5000. His patient testimonials are through the roof. Also a Dr. Christine in Birmingham, AL, much, much closer. I have not read up on his patient testimonials yet, but he and his crew certainly seem to be top notch from what I can ascertain from his videos. He qualified as a "Center of excellence" on the Coloplast web site "find a physician".

I realize none of us can really know what kind of results these guys are getting, although we can possibly find out who the high volume and lots of practice guys are. But what about it guys, has anyone had work done with either of these surgeons thus having an opinion on them, or otherwise know of who else is on the short list of really excellent implant surgeons?

Or, if there is another thread on this subject, please just refer me to it with a link.

While I am at it, have most of you implanted guys been happy with that decision? Any regrets?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Bill

Yes, Dr Eid is highly recommended. Dr. Perito is good and a bit closer. (Florida)

I believe hakky does scrotal incision and Pretio does pubic incision. I had my mind set on scrotal incision and ended up getting pubic incision. Both very good and down south. I used a surgeon with 30 yrs experience because he was only 90 miles from home and highly rated. NOTE::: I would not recommend USC Keck medicine. The surgery was a success but lots of needless pain. I am going to compare Dr Karpman to USC. My DR at USC is the head urologist so I assume all implants are done the same. USC pumped me 99% and said leave it alone for 4 weeks. Prescription pain meds for 2.5 weeks and constant Tylenol till deflated.( You guys know how the pain feels at max pump) Karpman inflates 50% then lets you start cycling at 4 days. Pump placement. USC doc says leave it alone. Do not touch it for 4 weeks. Mine got tied up with my left nut and have been trying to get it loosened up for the last 4 weeks 3 times daily in the hot tube.Dr Karpman says start pulling it down after 4 days. Keep it loose. Currently 8 weeks post op. Besides that I have been 8 weeks trying to get a written record of what was installed. They never call back and promise to send it but don't.

Hakky. Easy to fly right into Atlanta from any where in the south he does both scrotal and pubic incision along with one at the head of the penis. All of these Dr. mention are great.

Remember, high volume is not always a good decision. I prefer a Dr. I can reach anytime. My Dr. Edward Kata of Florida Urologic Associates is tops in my book. Perfect surgery no loss of length and no revision.

Good point Donnie. Hakky will give you his cell number and email. I talked with him one Sunday when he was at a Braves game.

The "official" opinion here seems to be anybody can do it. Look in the phone book under the heading urologist. Nobodies opinion of the doctor who did them well should weigh in. I shall not name who I had a adequate experience with to prevent a wrathful reply.
