Negotiating Medicare Co-pay

I was told by Dr Eids office that hospital and anastheologist bill could be between $4500-$6000. Medicare covers everything but that. The office also told me that I could negotiate with the hospital as SELF PAY. Anyone have experience with this??

I would have a hard time accepting the concept of surgery w/o anesthesia which is the direction they will not pay for it leads. I do think I would go a few rounds with someone here. Best of luck. Kick ass, make a list of names. Make sure the surgery code is correct. This is not trimming a hangnail.

I see you are 49 y.o. so you must have some sort of Medicare disability insurance to have Medicare at that age. Rules changed a lot the last few years on that. Also,some of those Medicare policies were somewhat limited in scope depending on the reason for the disability but some had special codes that if used first as the primary diagnosis and then something like your E.D. being the secondary diagnosis, then everything is covered. If the E.D. is listed as primary and your disability code is not listed or is listed as secondary, then it would not be covered. I know many that received medicare in their 20's or 30's as part of disability. I was adjudicated disabled when I was 54 but told I could not even apply for Medicare until I am 67. The rule change was a few months before the judge decision. That may be your issue also but I think the coding order is likely your problem. I would be interested in a P.M. conversation if you wish. In my case Medicare didnt cover "ALL" of the Anesthesia, but they did pay some toward it.

If Medicare has approved the surgery, I feel sure that the anesthesia would also be covered so long as it is done in a facility and by an anesthesiologist who accepts Medicare. I am on regular Medicare and have had the implant and one revision and each time Medicare covered 80% of all charges. You had better believe, I had anesthesia!

Not all physicians and not all hospitals accept Medicare, ask if that is the problem.

Did dr. Eid mention which type of Anethesiahe intended to utilize ?

If I'm not mistake he is a proponent of the spinal block anethesia.

Possibly this is part of the reason Medicare is reluctant to pay, over general anesthesia ??

Just a thought.
