GF and I plan to marry first week in September. We've been together over year but neither family side is happy about our relationship (age difference concerns mostly) so figure we might as well skip the family thing and do something fun like Vegas wedding. Any of you have experience with this ?

One LV wedding I went to was all screwed up. Place was (We Kirk of the heather) near downtown on the strip. Still there. Like the preacher was drunk. Older couple trying to have a formal affair. Totally screwed.
The second one, the groom was so drunk, nothing more could screw it up. It was in a casino in a room off the side of a busy hallway.
For my 2 cents, go to your county court house, then go off to a romantic cabin or to the beach for a few days.
You can call your courthouse to get instructions.
Just looked at your location on google maps. Why would you want to spend the money to go to LV when you live near Hilton Head SC ? Screw what the family wants. 48 to 65 is nothing in age difference. Enjoy life. Your not getting any younger.

We have a winter home in LV. Honestly the town is highly over rated. Sure the strip is glamorous. Get 2 blocks from it either way & it is surprisingly trashy in places. I'm kind of fond of Fremont street but it''s changed a lot the last few years. Search for Fremont Street on YouTube to see. Rooms & food used to be cheap, not anymore. Even parking at the casino's on the strip costs money now. Like most destination towns. The corporate owners are trying to maximize their income. They know most tourists won't be back for quite a while so it's a get them while you got them thing.
Most locals go to casino's that are not on the strip. The Stations & Cannery's properties are popular & there is several of them scattered around the city.

Bit off topic for sure. BUT, sounds about like my sisters age and her boyfriend. Difference is everyone on our side are happy she found somebody who treats her nice. His kids I hear are not so happy.
Heck I would get myself ordained and marry them myself. Even do it in my backyard which has held a couple relatives marriages.
Hate to say it but if you find someone as you get older you mesh with most of the time, sexual and otherwise, you are very lucky.

Oh, as to vegas. I would do the courthouse and go on a honeymoon somewhere nice. Unless you like to gamble. Then vegas, gamble get married and enjoy.

Reno, NV. has more of a small-town flavor. The North Shore of Lake Tahoe is vastly underrated. South Shore is better known, but either end of Lake Tahoe is a gorgeous, forested area if you like nature.

Vegas does have the closeness of the airport going for it. Town has grown around it. If you're savy there is quite a few free things to see. I like to sit in the atrium at Sam's Town. Fake trees, coyote, birds & running water. Light, music show there at night. Free light show on the cover over Fremont street hourly at night. The Forum at Caesar's Palace is interesting. I like visiting Boulder dam. My dad worked on it for some time when it was built. Bit of a drive but south of Vegas is the old town of Oatman. Kept some of the old west flavor. Has semi tame burros wandering around town looking for handouts. Just lots of people everywhere. Parking can be tough at times.

My wife and I married in LV. It was her 3rd and my 2nd marriage. We decided to avoid the problem of who to invite and not invite to the wedding by eloping. We got married at the Little Church of the West (
https://littlechurchofthewest.com/) and it was excellent. They did a fantastic job with the photo package. A week after we were married we had a catered party and invited everyone. We did hire a limo service to pick us up and take us back to our hotel We had a suite at the Signature at MGM Grand which was very nice at the time.

Not an expert on Vegas weddings. But as a guy who has married (same wife even) for what seems like forever I do have some suggestions
Get married on water skis. You wouldn’t be able to hear the vows, so you’d never know how badly you screwed up.
If that’s not to your liking, get married in a burning building. With a little luck you might catch on fire and never have to do one of your kids’ school science fair projects.
Seriously. A 9 year old doing a study to see if size of uvula correlates to foot size
