Surgery Scheduled -- Must Decide Which IPP Device (?)

Postby asmith » Thu Feb 16, 2012 12:43 am

Well my IPP surgery is scheduled for March 7. I've had consultations with three urologists, all of whom do IPP surgery, and two of whom are world renowned.

They will implant either the AMS 700 LGX or the Coloplast Titan OTR, whichever one I want. The two world renowned surgeons each have different recommendations for their preferred implant, one the AMS, the other the Titan.

Now, my surgeon needs me to decide which of the two IPP devices I want. And I have to decide by Friday.

I've read about and researched each device until I'm blue in the face.

I'd probably go with the Titan OTR because its presumably better at providing expanded girth, but not length. But from what I've read, it also makes your flaccid dick hang at about the four o'clock position -- and since I wear boxers, that's not going to work for me when I wear dress slacks to the office. I fear a conspicuous, pendulous bulge. I am a slender man and I really don't want to go walking about with a huge package bulging.

I'd probably go with the AMS 700 LGX because it presumably provides better length expansion, but not necessarily girth expansion. And my dick is already 7-1/8" erect, so it's not like I need length, as much as I do girth. I've also read that the flaccid dick hangs at about the 5 to 5:30 position with the LGX, which means less of a conspicuous bulge.

Any thoughts you have on which of the two IPP's to choose would be appreciated.

First of all, best of luck with your IPP Surgery scheduled for March 7th.
To answer your current questions, let me recap my reply to your February 4, 2012 Post.

Welcome to FT.
I was implanted with the Titan in December 2007 after developing ED Post-Prostatectomy in 2004.
Personally, I have not had any problem with my implant appearing semi-erect after I deflate it.
I both work out with the weights and swim for exercise, spending lots of time in locker rooms where no one can tell that
I have an IPP (Inflatable Penile Prosthesis).
Also, I wear a tight fitting Speedo racing suit while swimming without feeling at all self-conscious.
When properly deflated, my implant is not conspicuous.
To the best of my knowledge, the Titan is preferred for men with 7+ inches erect, since it is made of a sturdier material.
Best to discuss this with your URO.
In any event, always remember, the final decision is yours and yours alone.
Best of luck.

Bob

Why do you have to decide by Friday? I thought most surgeons had an inventory and could even switch choices during surgery if an issue arose during surgery that called for a different unit (hopefully a rare occurrence)?

Are you willing to share who you chose? Also what surgeons recommended each of the units and why?

I have read that some surgeons who are LGX proponents will switch their recommendation to the Titan for larger penises. Exactly where the cutover is, is not totally clear to me. The Titan comes in (special order) sizes that are quite a bit larger than the LGX and CX, I think. I think the largest LGX is 21cm, the largest standard Titan is 22cm, but I think the Titan goes to 28cm for special orders. The LGX can be extended with RTE's, but I've heard that you may get better stability without the RTEs, especially if there are a lot of them. NE_Bob in this forum stated he has a 22cm Titan, and he was 6 3/8 (now 6 1/2 with glans engorgement) post-op. So, possibly you will need a larger size than that.

Thanks

I am pretty sure the lgx has two grith choices. I got the smaller option which best matched my former size.

Interesting. I had read the LGX came only in one width (12mm deflated, up to 18mm inflated for each cyclinder). What are the various sizes? Also, I have been told by Dr Eid that even the LGX, which is narrower than the Titan (max 22mm), rarely expands to the full width limit. Apparently the patient's anatomy, the size of the cavernosum, typically limits the size to less then the max on both units. Or, so I've been told. I can't vouch for it.

Who told you that an LGX does not provide girth expansion? My girth expanded tremendously when I got MY LGX

whichever one you decide (I'd hope that you'd know by this point), best of luck to you! Hopefully, you'll be satisfied either way.

My life has changed SO MUCH since I received my implant. I hope that yours does too, and all for the better!

Decisions, decisions!

Here is my input. Please look at my posts and the pictures on it to see for yourself. (LGX Log in the implant forum.) I'm a pretty good sized guy, 6' 2" and 280 pounds. My penis is about 6-1/2 long and 5-1/4 girth. I still have some difficulty keeping him parked in a comfortable spot, as pressure on the hard ends that are in the glans cause some pain. Even wearing some loose jeans I have some bulge now, something I never had before. I'm probably about 60% of my inflated size when deflated. I have the 700 LGX.

I don't agree with the information you presented that the LGX doesn't expand in girth, it does. Just talk to Keith (LGX_man), he will also tell you that is not true. Most guys with the LGX report gains in girth. LGX means Length Girth eXpandable.

Guys with larger members i personally think are better off with the Titan. It would be my choice if I had 7-1/2 inches or more, but I don't. If you are slim, and you think you can hang comfortably inside your trouser leg, either would be fine. If you want something less conspicuous, I'd lean toward the LGX. Check out Genome's postings here for some pictures of him in jeans. He is not inconspicuous. Get yourself about 1/2 hard and try to stow it comfortably, that is what you will be dealing with. The Titan doesn't shrink in length when deflated, so you will be stowing the same girth and full length.

Want to talk more, PM me and we can get together on the phone.

To all--- I really do appreciate your replies and suggestions! Very helpful as I approach a decision on which device to select. So if others read this, again I welcome all comments and suggestions. Thank you!

asmith --

It would appear that you've already had your surgery, and already made your choice, so additional info is probably useless to you. But, for the benefit of future readers of this thread, I just want to give a different data point regarding the Titan. I had a 22cm Titan installed 17 days ago. I'm sure this is a case of YMMV, and probably greatly for everyone. But my flaccid hang at this point is not 4 o'clock. Its somewhere in the 5 to 5:30 range. I also wear boxers, though post-op I've also experimented with boxer briefs. The effect of boxers and the briefs is pretty much the same, and I exclusively wear pleated trousers and shorts. I have just the faintest bulge. I can notice it, barely, but I really doubt anyone else would. I'm far within the range of "normal" out in the real world. I'm not even slightly self conscious about it at this point. If the LGX would be less conspicuous in any way, it would be immaterial to me.
