If you google "magnetic induction penile prothesis" you will find a couple articles containing information regarding this new implant pioneered by Brian Le. It was successfully tested in a cadaver last May. Sounds like the simpler surgery would be much like a one-piece however you would remain somewhat flaccid when not in use. Have to carry a small wand around to activate it. Looks promising and could be the next generation of implant technology.
I still worry about questions I have not seen addressed in any of the reports/articles written about this device.
First of all, it is not truly a one-piece. It is a two-piece, requiring an external device to make it operate.
Even though it promises to have a longer service life and simpler, safer implantation than the 3-piece;
The hydraulic 3 piece has the ability to adjust rigidity to the comfort level of the participants. This one seems to be "full or flaccid" with nothing in between, where the 3-piece has the ability to be adjusted in rigidity and size over its range. My implant at 90% is comfortable for hours. At 100% is uncomfortable after about 60-90 minutes, but at 100% is preferred for the most active sex.
The ability to deflate at will is a feature of the 3-piece. The magnetic induction prosthesis seems to (from the scant information I have been able to find) go flaccid of its own accord after its temperature falls below the requisite threshold. That means my penis would stay up erect after I or my partner might be exhausted or go flaccid before we are ready to stop and need to be re-erected. (Of course, plenty of friction might keep the metal pumped up to the right temperature
.)
The chance that a spontaneous erection might occur (during a fever, in a sauna, in a hot tub or just walking around Yuma Arizona in August) could be problematic.
Would carrying around the magnetic induction "wand" be problematic? If a man unexpectedly encountered a willing partner and had left is "wand" at home. Woman, "I want you to fuck me right now." Man, "I would love to. Have you got a coil of wire and some jumper cables in your nightstand?"
Now, if the implant could be powered by a battery (not unlike the batteries that power pacemakers) which could be recharged through the skin with an induction device and turned on and off by a switch...that might work, leave the man independent (at least for a few days or weeks at a time) of any external device, and able to control erection/flaccid state at will.
I also wonder, when the penis increases in volume, what it is that comprises the increased volume? Is it the implantee's blood? Is that problematic if it should congeal.
