In 2005 i was awarded ED due to very high doses of ptsd drugs and just did nothing and figured it was life curve ball with the ED. Years later i started pills 200mg of V sometimes worked then 2017 injections now going to try muse so i think i am ready to ask for an implant . STEP 1 ? ask gp for a uro appt.? Step 2 ? 3? Any VA vets travel this road ? 90% disabled well 170%but it added to 90% VA math

I don't have experience with the VA.
I do recommend Drs Avila and Bigelow at Ironwood Urology though.
Dr Avila sized me perfectly.
I didn't like his communication skills and his bias against LGX for cylinders 18cm or longer.
I suspect Dr Bigelow might be better in those areas but don't know.

Robert, things are going well.
My wife claims to not like sex every day but I don't bother her on golf days, Tue and Thu.

After you get implanted things get better sexually.
Not like being young, but hell, we aren't young anymore.

Keep us posted on your plans.
Tom

I went to 4 different doctors before I made my choice, ended up with a dud anyway. I suggest that you get a recommend from someone first. Vets can now use any doctor as I understand. Just tell us where you are and how much you are willing to lose in length.

I got my implant at the VA medical where I happen to work. In retrospect that is probably why it took me along time to go from hoping I’d get hard to seeking help and going on pills. I was worried that my co-workers would find out I had a broke cock.

I’m think I’m lucky as Salt Lake has a Men’s Sexual Health Clinic led by a great surgeon, after my diagnosis of Peyronies (very mild) things went fast.

I’m now 7 months post surgery. Life is good feel like a man again losing weight, getting in shape, regaining size lost with ED, and Peyronies.

Best advice I can give is talk to your Primary Care doc get to Urology and go from there, you have to be your advocate as well follow advice from them but keep pushing. Like many insurance plans the VA may require you to fail other treatments before moving to implant surgery.

Good luck

Despite all negative talk the VA does have great staff at least overall there are problems, each VA hospital seems different but if you look up the doctors that may do the implant a lot of them have privileges at the VA.

Since it sounds like you have contacts with the urologist already make an appointment to discuss your medication, when there explain your issue and ask him or even tell him that your ready for the next step, getting an implant.

When I was active duty I often heard statements like “This shit doesn’t work” I’d ask did you tell the doc? Often they would say no, that he should know it doesn’t work. If you don’t tell they may think it works. And keep doing the same thing. Not saying that you have done that my point is we have to be our own advocate at times and push to the front our medical issues. It took me a long time to realize if I suffer in silence I won’t get better, again this is,was, and has been my experience. Again my medical center may be one of the better ones and you may need to use the patient advocate at your facility or look at using the Veteran’s Choice program to move forward. Just don’t give up.

I am not a veteran, but if you are considering an implant, I would read deep through the forum. Doing this help my understand what to expect in the months and years after the implant. It will also help you ask your doc questions. I find that there is not really much new information posted for me, but reading the forum prior to my decision to get an implant really helped with my decision and my post surgery stress.

Good luck!
