infrapubic and icing
Hey guys. This may be a dumb question but I will ask it anyway. I had my surgery done via infrapubic approximately two days ago. I don't have a huge amount of swelling in my scrotum so to speak. My surgeon told me to make sure I am icing there regardless, which I know is the right thing to do.... I just want to know the "why" behind it and I didn't think to ask him when I was on the phone? The incision was above my dick, so there would be the most swelling there and along the incision, correct? I also have a drain that is attached that I am getting removed saturday. I think it is getting rid of the swelling in the fat pad but I am no expert and clearly not sure. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: infrapubic and icing
I just got implanted (revision) by Dr. Karpman (infra pubic). I do not have any swelling. Dr. Karpman had a drain for about 18 hours and the nurse emptied the blood few times as I stayed at the hospital overnight. I had dull pain in my scrotum and the only medication that treated it was Tramadol which is part anti-inflammatory. I guess your surgeon was just playing it safe. At the end of the day, the ice packing is helpful and better than taking medications. PM me if you want to chat.

I can only speak for myself, but my surgeon recommended using ice frequently for a week to 10 days. I found it to be my best friend for reducing the swelling. My implant was also done infrapubic 10 months ago. Good luck, Bailey

Despite not having "a lot of work" done in the scrotum, the doctor did have to separate the layers of tissue in the scrotum to create a pocket for the pump. The pump typically will be in a separate pocket in the scrotum. At least that's how I've seen the details explained in numerous surgical videos and AMS and Coloplast surgeon instructional documents.
The fact that the tissues in the scrotal pouch were "blunt dissected" to create the pouch, and there's a foreign object (pump) in your scrotum, there will be a degree of trauma with which your body needs to contend and from which it needs to heal. The icing helps keep swelling down and improves healing. Additionally, heat will increase blood flow to the area which may speed up healing. Alternating between ice and heat is something some surgeons recommend.

Re: infrapubic and icing
10 minutes ice, then 10 minutes heat. About 3 rotations. then do it again in 2 hrs.
