Hi All,
This is my first post but I I have been lurking here for a few years. I am 56 years old and I have spent about 10+ years dealing with ED. I initially used PDE5 inhibitors (viagra..) then started using injection over the last two years. Unfortunately I went from a Priapism on my 2nd trimix injection to attempting to dial the in pge1 ration to papervine. Initially I was sensitive to papervine so I started using pge1 solely then as that faded or stopped working as well I started weaving in papervine/phento (bi mix) think trimix with mostly pge1 and low dose papervine. Now injections and or PDE5 barely work for me. :(
So now I am researching the IPP options and reading any peer reviewed study (feel free to share if you found one that was insightful) and or journal post here on FT. Before I ask my question let me preface this with yes I know that Eid, Kramer and Perito are thought to be the best because of case volume and experience. I could fly to one of them if I had to but I like the idea of having someone local if possible. That said, I have to believe in a state with the population of TX with all the patients who need implants a few surgeons in Texas would stand out as the go to IPP implant surgeon. I am leaning toward a penoscrotal procedure if that matters. A few that I have on my short list are Jonathan Clavell, Run Wang, and Mohit Khera. Clavell has a IPP section on his website that claims to implant 185 patients per year but not sure about the others. Have you or someone you know used these surgeons for IPP and how did it go? If not who is thought to be the go to surgeon for IPP in Texas (Austin, Houston, San Antonio, DFW)?
Thanks ev1

Dr. Allen Morey at UT Southwestern in Dallas is a high-volume implant surgeon but he also trains others to do implants. If you choose Dr. Morey, unless you and he have a firm understanding that only HE is approved to do your surgery, it is possible that you may have your implant performed by someone else under his direct supervision.

I don't know if Dr. Morey will give 100% confirmation that he will do an implant if so requested - so it's up to the patient to discuss this with him, if not comfortable being the subject of a training surgery.

My implant was done by Dr. Mark Allen in Plano TX. He's not necessarily a high-volume surgeon as he has a normal Urology practice and treats both genders. He does rate highly on "Healthgrades" website for complex penile surgery and implant surgery, both in the high 90% range compared to his peers. My implant surgery was performed at Baylor Scott & White in Frisco TX.

Diver,
I don’t think that number you mentioned in your post for Dr Clavell is accurate. From mine emailing with him, I asked that same question which he answered that he performes 75-100 implants annually. He also mentioned that so far he performed 300+ implants.
I think Dr Khera and Dr R. Cornel are 2 top performers when it comes for numbers. I also heard good comments about Dr Run Wang. Another guy who performs implants is Dr Starke.
They all are in Houston at different hospitals.

Thanks for the heads up MK how long ago was your communication with Clavell? I miss spoke it said 150 per year and I will confirm with Clavell when we speak next week but this is what I pulled from his website- https://houstonmenshealth.com/procedure ... igh-Volume Practice
"Dr. Clavell is a consultant for both Boston Scientific and Coloplast. He will discuss with you which implant is best suited specifically for you. With more than 150 implants per year, our office is the highest volume practice in prosthetic urology in the state of Texas and one of the highest volume practices in the United States and the world!"
I will take a look at Dr. Starke he or she had not hit my radar yet, Cornell I held back on because someone on FT has a bad experience but that does not mean he is not good. Of course I am will talk to Khera and Morey.
That said, I am not locked in with anyone yet, but I am looking for the best IPP surgeons in TX and if I need to fly to Eid or Kramer I will. Thanks

Hi Waynetho
thanks for the heads up on Dr. Morey. I apologize as he was on my short list(omitted from original post) but like your post I was concerned about who would actually do my surgery. That said if I was confident that he was going to do the procedure I would throw him into the mix. Thanks

Diver,
I emailed him back and forth last week.
My understanding is that he and his partner Dr Cornel together perform 150 implants annually.

Thanks for getting back with me on this MK very good information and good timing. "performs 75-100 implants annually. He also mentioned that so far he performed 300+ implants." So 300 implants to date versus 5000 for Kramer. Still working on my short list of the top surgeons in TX then on to pre op consultation and hope covid settles down so I can get this done..............

Im not implanted and currently successfully using trimix injections. I wont do surgery until that option fails.
That said, I am a patient of Dr Clavell’s. When the time comes I will go to him. Why?
-He didn’t pressure me to get surgery (surgery has risks, Id like it to be a last resort)
-Plain spoken and not a nerd like my Cardiologists who bugs me lol
-He, not I, brought up size preservation and why it was important
-I felt comfortable talking to him about something that is deeply embarrassing, he’s chill.

That’s my take.

Thanks

i saw Dr clavell and DR Cornell at the same time ,, i was looking for someone to fix two previous botched surgeries. DR Clavell was trained by Dr run Wang . Both referred me to Dr Wang in fact Dr clavell called and set my appointment. I would have used either but they declined and said Dr Wang would be my best option . They were correct. Wade
