Imo combining surgeries would be ideal for recover time as well as mental health. If your forced into doing the surgeries separately get the hernia repaired before the IPP surgery.

Do not do them at the same time. The number one cause of implant problems is infection. The more potential points of infection, the more likely you are to have issues with your implant. I was in a similar situation, only for me, the other surgery I needed was TURP for an enlarged prostate. I did that about 7 weeks ago. Once I'm healed from that, it's implant time.

If you do both at same time you will probably have to have 2 docs. A urologist surgeon and a general surgeon. So you will have to have some coordination. In my case I had an implant. 10 months later hernia surgery. Then coincidentally my implant no longer worked and i was experiencing a lot of pain. Scheduled revision. Local urologist this time with hernia surgeon in the operating room to remove old implant and make sure hernia stayed fixed and new implant put in. About 4 hours in or.

So far so good with the new implant and no hernia issues.

Your uro might not even implant if hernia is outstanding.

If you have insurance, I highly recommend USC KECK medicine. I had my implant and hernia repair both done there. See my signature. Dr Boyd is retired but will do the IPP if specifically asked for. I don't remember the name of the hernia surgeon but you cant beat Keck medicine. PM me if you would like to talk.

I'm in the same boat. Had cat scan and have a hernia left side, I'm pretty sure I'm headed for implant next year as well. The thing is I go on Medicare in March. My uro's place doesn't except medicare. Anyone know one in michigan that does IPP ? I'll schedule hernia before I switch!

Do you HAVE to go on Medicare? I THINK you can stay on private insurance and that will remove the requirement. It might be more expensive than going on medicare, but likely a lot less expensive than going out of pocket.

Hmm, I just assumed that I had to. We're both getting state (school system) pensions, they use hers and I pay a little more for our portion for bennies. I'll have to check on that good call! I've got a friend that's doing my medicare.

Shouldiwait, hope that kinda answered your question from me. I'm doing hernia probably before end of year and probably figure out the rest.
