RTE Why?

Why are extensions used with the implant? Like I've seen signatures with different length RTE's. Example: 18cm implant & 3cm RTE. Why didn't the dr just use a 21cm implant.
I have a 21cm implant with 1cm RTE.

In your case. Your penis likely measured longer than the 21cm that LGX comes in. So a RTE was added to get you up to your length. I think the RTE's come in .5cm. So would you of liked to of been shorted by a little over 3/16"? They might come in 1cm increments. So you could of been shorted almost 7/16".
Implants come in a limited number of sizes. One use of RTE's is to fine tune the length. Make sense now?

To add to GT1956's comments, sometimes they will add an RTE to help the tubing line up with the right part of the crus to allow the corporotomies (incisions in the erectile bodies) to be where they need to be rather than too deep inside the body, in men with a very deep crus. The doctor didn't use RTE on me, because I have practically no crus to speak up, with my erectile bodies ending directly under my pubic bone.

Hello Waynetho,
Thanks for the info on the RTE. I just have implant surgery on 10/27/20. Seems like everything is going well. My post surgical appointment was today. The doctor said the RTE was required to get me to the right length. I had an LGX 18cm with a 4 cm RTE. I was a bit surprised at the length of the implant and RTE considering at best before any ED issues I was only about 5.75" long and about 5.5" thick. I'm anxious to see what the length and girth actually measures out once I can pump it up. I also had some penoscotal webbing removed. So I still have some healing to do. I'm curious how a guy would know how deep the crus was on his body. I have never heard that term before. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks

Is it possible that Doc only has one implant prepped? As in its not to get the half size between implant but to makeup for his under estimate of your size? Seems there are plenty of guys on here with 2cm RTE--dont they come in 2 cm increments? If so why not use the next larger implant?

That can happen in lower volume surgeons who stock their own inventory but most of the higher volume surgeons will have the company rep in the operating room during surgery and the rep brings a selection of implant sizes for that very reason.

I interviewed a couple of surgeons and all stated the AMS Rep would be in the operating room with all the possible lengths and equipment. I actually met the guy right before they put me under. I would doubt many surgeons don't have a rep in the operating room. The AMS 700 LGX operating kit contains cylinder lengths of 12cm, 15cm, 18cm and 21cm. And RTE kit contains two each .5cm, 1.0cm, 1.5 cm stackable, 2cm, 3cm, 4cm, 5cm and 6cm.
I actually found the AMS Operating Room Manual on line. It's worth reading if you are thinking of an implant.

For the reason Waynetho posted above

Thanks for the info guys. Adding the extensions so that the tubing lines up makes a lot of sense.
Yes the rep was in the operating room, I spoke with her a day or two before the surgery. She had nothing but good things to say about my surgeon.
