Vasectomy before implant

I have a venous leak, and one day will require an implant.

If I want to have a vasectomy, should I have it performed well before requiring an implant?

I sometimes read of men getting a vasectomy while getting an implant. Is this advised, are there advantages to this?

Are there any complications a vasectomy can cause to implant surgery?

Thanks.

I don't have an implant, but I have had a vasectomy. The vasectomy surgery is no big deal. I had no pain or anything afterwards. Unless a doctor says otherwise I don't see why you couldn't do both at the same time. It may be cheaper and it's definitely easier than two separate surgeries.

I recently had an implant installed, and had my vasectomy as part of the surgery. (I also had a scrotoplasty done as well.) No problems with either procedure, and no impact in the recovery time. If you’re going to have both done, you might as well get them done at the same time, IMO.

I've had one uro tell me he prefers to do the vasect prior to implant, in order to not increase chances of infection.

I had my current uro tell me its no problem to do it during implant. However, I am also having a small cyst removed (spermatocele) so I am opting to do that and vascect together prior to possible implant. This uro also told me once you get the vasect with an implant there is no reversal.

However, Dr Clavell has said he can do reversals with an implant no problem. I won't need a reversal, already have 2 children (+ 2 step-children).

I think I'd prefer getting a Vasectomy before surgery though, because I want to delay surgery if I can.

I asked my surgeon about having a vasectomy at the same time as the implant and he said, "I don't see why not." He continued, once he did the implant, if there were no reasons not to, he would proceed with the vasectomy. Some posters on FrankTalk advised against combining the surgeries because if some minor thing went wrong, it would be difficult to tell what was the cause and what should be the fix (e.g. the vas deferens sometimes gets inflamed after being cut and cauterized).

I desired this because I imagined that there might be a slim chance I might some day find myself unencumbered and in the company of a willing woman young enough to still be fertile. As slim as that possibility was!

I don't see a problem having it done at the same time but I am not a doctor. I had mine done 40 years ago. I also had a Hydrocele and surgery to remove the sack around my left testicle. Neither of these made a difference with the implant surgery. So if you want to have it done ahead of time from what I was told it will not make any difference in the implant surgery. Really up to you. My vasectomy was done by my family doctor in his office in a regular exam room. Either way you would need to use birth control until you can ejaculate into a cup and have it tested negative for sperm. At least that is what I had to do back then.
