Anyone here have any experience with Dr. T Mike Hsieh of UC San Diego? I had a video consult with him yesterday and he is ready to do the surgery in one month!

Why take a chance on some random doctor? I would spend a tad bit more and go to the gold standards like Dr. Eid.
I live in SoCal and would only let Dr. Eid every operate on me.

He is the director of Urology at UC San Diego and he and one other doctor were the only two that were recommended by the AMS sales rep in Southern California. I did a video conference with him he sounded very confident and told me he does several hundred implants a year.

tbh that means nothing to me. there's horror stories from bad surgeons who were heads of their departments etc.

again, i'd rather pay a little more and go see the gold standard: Dr. Eid.

I know from all the good remarks on FT Dr Eid is top of the field. The thing is not everyone can afford to travel and Dr Eid is getting “ up there” I wish Dr Eid would switch to education and doing what he can to educate others drs to be better surgeons.

Then i'd go for the silver standard: Hakky, Kramer, and maybe Clavell

Who says these surgeons are the Silver or Gold Standard?
I am sure there are surgeons that are just as good, but aren't promoting themselves the same way.

I think of the book Who's Who in America, where you can pay to get yourself listed in the book.

If he does several hundred implants a year, that’s a good thing. I got implanted by Dr. Andrew Kramer, and one of the main reasons that I chose him to do my implant is because he’s been a high volume implant doctor for a long time. Experience matters.

One of the other reasons that I went with Dr. Kramer is because he guarantees that he is the one that will be doing your implant. I had to travel to get my implant done. I went to see another local doctor who was highly recommended in the area, but he could not guarantee that he would be doing my implant.

So, if your doctor can guarantee that he’s the one that will be doing your implant, that’s another positive thing.

It would be cool if we had a hard reference sheet in member files of best App surgeons in specific regions of the country. That would be a great recourse.

Elective medicine is big business.

One thing I saw, and liked, with my surgeon is he didn’t totally rely on implants for income. He has a well rounded medical business practice. The other factor, mentioned previously, is he does the surgery himself.

Surgery is a team effort…the facility, nurses, anesthesiologist, etc. So it’s the team the doctor assembles that makes the surgery itself a success.

One thing overlooked is the type of anesthesia, the potential impact, short and long term on ones body.

Google is your friend. Plus talk with the surgeon. Don’t be afraid to ask any, and I mean any questions.

FYI. Covid impacted all elective surgery. There’s a back log now.

Good luck.
