implant for SCI- post uro visit

hi all,
so i talked to a top urological surgeon in my area about getting implanted after an SCI (C5/6 incomplete) . its been about 6 months since my injury without any real improvements, however he said that he wants to wait 18 months before considering it because that's the time frame of recovery for nerve damage. pills don't work however he's told me to try injections - the first caverject i used gave me the most painful erection.
i was looking for some advice on what you would do if in my position or know of anyone in a position that has recovered function. i think that any atrophy concerns can be mitigated by daily cialis and VED/traction. part of why the implant seems so appealing to me is the certainty behind it. my logic is that if any recovery happens in terms of sensitivity thats just a bonus, but i will at least have a 100% reliable erection at all times.
i have the option to seek out another doctor who is willing to do it but any advice is appreciated.
