I am thinking of getting an implant and I have questions.
1. What doctor would you recommend? Are any in the Boston area?
2. What is the likelihood of insurance coverage? What is the range for self pay?
3. If I start the process of locating a doctor next week, how long can I expect to wait for the actual surgery date?
4. Is there any physical limitations on fitness activities due the chance of breakage.
I appreciate any assistance

Re: Question about implant
Another urologist performing implants closer to Boston is Dr. Martin Gross.
Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Ctr
580 Court St # 590 Keene, NH 03431
(603) 354-5400
I was implanted by Dr. Eid in NYC, and highly recommend Dr. Eid, as a compassionate man and an expert urological surgeon.
I have never met Dr. Gross, but others on this site have been implanted by him, and are satisfied.

Re: Question about implant
I’ve also heard great things about Dr Gross—his name seems to be attached to a lot of the studies and papers that are published about implants and posted here. Definitely knows his stuff
I was implanted by Dr Hakky but I’m from the northeast and he had suggested if I didn’t want to travel, he would recommend Dr Ricardo Munarriz in Boston.
And of course, Dr Eid is an option in NYC

1- can't be of help there, I'm in midwest area.
2- insurance can be iffy. Sometimes they want to see if other methods have been tried. cash pay 16-20K
3- that depends on where the surgery will take place. Outpatient is usually quicker to schedule, hospital may be longer wait. Also how busy the surgeon is. My guess is 2-3 months.
4- physical limitation will be no heavy lifting for 6 weeks. after that depends on how you feel.
Good Luck

Re: Question about implant
Martin Gross is my guy. Based on my limited experience, he's very good.
He will only do the surgery if it's covered by insurance. My understanding is that insurance companies vary in terms of coverage.
Once you've healed enough, you should be fine in terms of physical activity. I am reluctant to try bicycling because I worry about damaging the tubes.

Re: Question about implant
Is bicycling possible, after an extended healing period, or is it damaging to the implant regardless?

Re: Question about implant
Minnesota, how deep did you dive? Are there any depth limitations that you're aware of? Thanks.
