Implant Nightmare!

Hello all,

I am curious if I can find anyone in a similar predicament as me.

I was implanted in April, developed a severe infection which made its way into my urethra, and have been wearing a catheter for almost a month in a half.

A salvage procedure was attempted but a new device could not be placed due to the severity of the infection.

After the implant was removed, I noticed immediate retraction of the penis to the point that I feel like I may have trouble urinating once the catheter is removed. I'd say that between the implant being removed and the surgery, I may have lost 1.5 inches.
Has anyone had an infection before of their implant, how long did you have to wait before another attempt, and was an implant even successful? I have read that the longer a doctor waits to place another device cylinder placement is nearly impossible because of scar tissue in the corporal bodies.
I am being referred to Dr. Purito in Florida. My doc wants me to wait six months, but won't my penis be a nub by that time even with VED therapy? Studies suggest that VED therapy over 4 months only yields 1.5 CM, 0.59 inches in SPL length.
Thanks anyone. I'm in absolute misery
Nathan .
I'm only 30.

So sorry you are undergoing this moreso at this age. I dont have a solution to offer other than my prayers and best wishes. Dr. Perito is great I am sure he can fix any issue you might have.

Hi guys,

Thanks. I was hoping I would find someone with an infection. I did contact their office and am awaiting a call back. The most frustrating part is I don't know if I'll be able to have health insurance cover this. I don't even know if a third surgery is possible? But what if I can't urinate? This is crazy!

I'm really sorry about your problems. I am also young and I had 3 penile implant surgeries in less than 2 years. I can imagine what you're feeling. Unfortunately a successful penile implant surgery is not so obvious and, especially at our age, when something goes wrong it's a big hit. I can tell you that I personally know a very young guy from my country who had a replacement due to device malfunction of an ams implant after only few months like me and he got a bad infection after second surgery and the device was removed. He told me that he is currently using VED and he has to wait about 6 moths before attempting a new implant. Some doctors suggested to avoid any further implant (???), others suggested a semirigid forever and others told him that they could try another 3 pieces but it's very risk. But please note that we're talking about "italian" specialist. I think that if you go to the best doctors (Eid, Hakky, Perito, Clavell for example) they can help you to get another 3 pieces. I read some stories here about device infections that were finally fixed and with good results. Don't give up!

you should absolutely be using VED diligently every day and i would personally recommend that you do traction to avoid the formation of contracted scar tissue.

Hi,

It sounds like another surgery may be possible. Why do some recommend waiting 6 months while others say 3 or 4? Waiting heals tissue but wouldn’t you have too much scar formation to do anything?

Unfortuantely, for a month in a half, I have have a catheter so have not been able to do exercises yet.

I had a three peice put in in April too. No infection so far but I am in continuous discomfort. My urologist says everything seems ok. I'm scheduled with a new Dr in August. I am happy that this apparently goes well for most people but remember, if this goes bad it can go real bad. Do Not do this unless you just have to.

Very very sorry for your circumstances. First of course you can't do Ved while you're using a catheter right. Second when you do start using Ved before your next implant make sure you are very consistent. Unless the doctor says otherwise I would use it both morning and night. That will give you the best permanent results. Ved d can stretch you out and then you can shrink again rather quickly when you stop. Of course the implant helps reduce that but until it settles in it's hard to know what you'll get. A former moderator named Larry had your exact problem and he posted pictures and yes you're right before they reimplanted him his glands had almost disappeared inside. He permanently lost one inch that was doing Ved daily for at least a year or two afterwards. Good luck

Hi,

What was Larry’s final results? Erect length? Was intercourse possible for him or was the implant used to help with urination?

What are the consequences of not having another implant? Will the penis shrink until urination is an issue?
If an implant is done again, a smaller one will have to be put in because of loss of length right? So, I am 3.5 flaccid before surgery. I think I am 3 inches or maybe a little below. If an implant will only give me 3.5 inches, what is the point of the surgery, since intercourse is not possible?
