I'm three days out from implant surgery, My doc places the reservoir in the left submuscular/abdominal area rather than retropubic, which I understand is called an ectopic placement.
It's quite palpable today -- firm swelling at the lower left abdomen -- and it was super painful postop right in that area.
I still have the most pain right at the reservoir - feels like a stabbing/searing pain that comes intermittently and then lasts for some time after it starts up. Happened last night. Haven't had to go back to the oxy yet - still managing pain with tylenol/gabapentin/meloxicam - but if it wasn't so painful to get up I woulda gotten that oxy.
It's also a bit difficult to stand/sit and I have to avoid compressing that lower left abdomen.
Others have this experience post-op with this reservoir placement? How long does it last? I could do without it. Everything else seems fine - no significant pain at the scrotum, just some bruising.
Pain at submuscular reservoir site?

Re: Pain at submuscular reservoir site?
I had no intense pain in the resovior area. That said I would get periodic jab like minor pains in that area for maybe the first 30 days. Check w your doctor but a lot of healing is going on.
ED survivor 5 years. Tried pills, Gainswave, PRP, Bi-Mix/Tri Mix (worked 50% but very painful for 24 hours after injection.) 55 Gay - Single Titan Coloplast implanted June 1st, 2022, scrotal in Miami by Dr Billy Cordone..,very happy. Zero regrets

Thanks Florida. I'm getting the impression this is unusual. Hoping for the passage of time to resolve it but I did read of some infrequent revisions required due to pain associated with the ectopic placement.
I reached out to the doctor's offie and hope for a response soon. Minimally I have a recheck appt 11/17 with his PA.

Re: Pain at submuscular reservoir site?
I've never had any idea where my reservoir is. Obviously haven't had any pain there.

Might I ask about your body physique?
My reservoir will need to be placed in the sub-muscular/abdominal area rather than retropubic space due to my history of prostrate surgery & radiation.
In pre surgery consultation, Dr Eid told me to expect some discomfort in that area at first but it should fade away in about 3 weeks. He said guys with lean muscular (flat stomach) physique are more difficult to place the reservoir sub-muscular. Consequently they tend to experience more initial discomfort and are likely to feel the reservoir more so than guys with some extra padding in the waistline. Then he pointed at my belly and said you should do okay. LOL I guess my love of craft brews will help in this regard.
My BMI is at the very top end of the healthy range. That said, I can pinch an inch at my waistline. I’m just curious if what I was told correlates to your situation?

I'm with you Flounder. For the same reason! Plus I managed to gain 5-10 lbs after quitting smoking (I've been on and off) at the start of this year in an unsuccessful attempt to improve erections. So I can't blame my rippped physique for the pain. I think my BCS puts me in the overweight but not yet obese category.
I can clearly trace the water balloon at the lower left abdomen despite this - I'd like to say he had to supersize the reservoir to account for my massive implant but no clue what he actually put in size-wise.
It feels somewhat better today and maybe it's just a matter of making it past these first few weeks per Eid's remark - thanks for sharing that.

Re: Pain at submuscular reservoir site?
I wanted to close this thread out as well after around 100 days postop.
I continued to have pain at the reservoir site for a few weeks. It was incredibly effing painful immediately postop and then slowly improved to pain free after a few weeks.
I can still easily palpate it on my left side although it's not visible - feels like a beanbag or bubblewrap when I push on it - but no pain.
Anyway, just wanted those who come behind me to get the benefit of this post. I got a lot of help looking at old posts when making my decision to go ahead and do this and then postop as well.
Finally had sex for the first time Christmas Day 2022 and was an amazing experience after months/years of failures and decades of expecting to fail.

My experience won't be of much help to you but might inform others.
The penoscrotal doc that I 1st spoke to wanted to do a submuscular placement BLIND through the surgical mesh that was placed in my lower abdomen during a double hernia operation.
That was one of the reasons I decided against choosing him and that method of implantation for my penile implant.
The infrapublic doc that I ultimately chose did the standard reservior placement in the retzius (or retropublic space). He didn't need to do the reservoir placement blind and he was still able to place the reservoir w/o complications.
I think I've felt the reservoir once in the 25 days since my operation but otherwise I wouldn't know it's there.

Re: Pain at submuscular reservoir site?
I know it’s been a while since originally posted but I also had a resivor placement sub muscular and I’m pretty lean in that are. I had double hernia with mesh years earlier and Dr was afraid to go thru mesh. This is my only regret with my surgeon. He did tell me however that it would show. He used a 110 cc resivor to oversize it so it could flatten out more but still shows terribly! If and when I get a revision I will find a Dr that will put it inside me where it won’t show. It was very painful for 6-8 weeks but after that and even today it presents no problem at all just the ugly bulge right on my belt line. Crinkles and can feel the thing all the time but zero pain.
59 years old ED started mid 40s pills failed after 10 years. Injections works but diminishing results with pain. Implanted 5-22 Baylor,Scott, and White Dallas.Dr Michael Wierschem, infrapubic Coloplast 20cm and 1cm RTE. Going strong and loving it!

I am just wondering : If it is moved to the area inside of you, behind your penis (where the reservoirs are sometimes placed) , is there a chance that it could come in conflict with your prostate and the area that an enlarging prostate has to expand into ?
