New Implant Pain

I had a new AMS 700 implant procedure 6 weeks ago.

I went to the doctor today and he pumped it all the way up for the first time. (it had been partially inflated the whole time)

I was a little disappointed by 2 things. MY penis is now noticeably thinner than it was before the procedure. I've read about guys complaining about losing length quite a bit but not so much girth. Mine may be a little shorter but its the noticeable slimness that bothers me. He said he put in the largest size they have.

The second thing is the pain when inflated. A sharp pain around the head and the upper half of my penis. This pain is significant and not conducive to what I hope to accomplish with it. It looks like the doctor got the pointy heads of the implant up into the glans pretty far. He was pointing that out to me so I guess that's a good thing if the pain goes away. He wants me to inflate it every day.

My questions to you guys are: Will I gain any girth back by inflating it daily? Will the pain I am experiencing when I pump it up go away sometime soon?

I can’t advise you on the AMS, but it is normal to have pain or discomfort the first few times you inflate. I suggest if you want to use your new tool pump up but not all the way. My wife and I like the feel and sensations better when not pumped to max. For cycling, that’s a different story, when you cycle you do want to push the limits, some say if it doesn’t hurt a little you are not “growing.”

It would help if you posted your girth measurement. Generally guys with larger girth before implant can lose some girth, while thinner guys will gain.

I 2nd what wolfpacker said.....It seems like around 5" is the magic girth number. Those less than that seem to get a little boost with an implant and those in the mid 5" range stay the same or end up a touch smaller. Of course there are exceptions but I think the numbers above are at least in the ballpark of what to expect with a competent surgeon

I think you will be happy on both fronts after 8 months or so. The first time I pumped up, I was horrified by what I thought I had lost in both length and girth. And on my first visit to see my doc after surgery, doc couldn't even inflate me fully, I tapped out due to terrible pain in the tips.

Try to enjoy the process and accept it is going to be a full year (of consistent cycling, bending, etc.) before you know what you have. I have just passed the year and a half mark and I still see little gains.

Yes - follow your doc's advice, and cycle daily! Twice a day if you can.

Don’t be discouraged! It’s difficult I know! I’m 6.5 months post surgery. I was inflated for 6 weeks post surgery as well. It was a difficult recovery for me as the tip of the head pain would not stop and I was aggravated. At about 3 months it started easing up and by 5 to 6 months is very slight….gone most of the time. Sometimes after penetrative sex I’m sore for a day or two. But not bad and manageable. I too have an ams 700. This implant does expand girth a little but not length. Did your surgeon clear you for hot baths? I was told at 6 weeks to soak in a hot bath everyday for 30 minutes for at least 3 weeks and more if you want to. It softens the implant and the tips and feels great. Inflate daily as well for at least 6 months and keep inflating if you feel like it. Your penis will have a new look as well…perhaps a little flat on top instead of round. Not too bad. They say and I’m finding it to be true that it takes your brain 6 months to a year to re program and get used to your new penis…look and feel… but it will happen. For the tip and penis pain apply Vaseline for the next few weeks. Each week will get better from now on though it doesn’t seem fast enough. The tip pain is a lot to deal with but it will stop! Also, though uncomfortable, if the surgeon did not put the tips of the implants in your head you could end up with a floppy head with an erect penis…not a good thing. He did the right thing. Sounds like we may have had the same surgeon. Most don’t leave you inflated for six weeks but it’s best. Stretch, stretch, stretch the tissue. Hang in there. Hope this helps!

Hope things are feeling better. Implant surgery is a tough one to recover from. I know that's a real tender area on my body! It took me almost six months to be pain free, and a year to get accustomed to the new part of me.
Iwantanewone advice for a hot bath is solid. That was my relief for a few months, I'd soak for 30-45 minutes every morning. If you really need something to ease the pain, I used Aspercream. A small dab smeared on my shaft kept my soreness to a minimum all day.
My surgeon left me inflated for 5 1/2 weeks. He tried to deflate me at 2 weeks, but I was so sore it about made me jump off the table. As far as sizing issues, I never knew you were supposed to inflate daily. Found out I was supposed to be cycling 5 months after my implant. Up to that point I had only inflated for sex, and that caused a burning sensation along my shaft. Started cycling at 5 months, tracked my measurements. In 2 months my gain was maybe 1/8" in girth. Think I was too late starting, and I know my length is about 1" shorter than my prime days. But I can get an erection.

There seems to be a pretty big discrepancy, depending on your doctor as to when to start cycling. It seems like the more aggressive doctors have you cycling 2 to 4 weeks out. The same docs clear you for sex at four weeks. It seems that the sooner you cycle the better to combat the encapsulation and scar tissue growth.

In the brief time, I had the Titan before it had to be removed due to the infection, I was cycling at two weeks. It was painful, but manageable. As was posted previously, Aspercreme is definitely helpful. I was cycling several times a day because I took three weeks off. I’m retired so I only work part time and that was easy to do. The first time I cycled everything hurt. Right towards the end before the infection took over I only felt pain in the tip of the shaft closest to the glans.

I was implanted with the AMS 700 on 10/24 and was back at the doctor on 11/28 to learn how to inflate and use. I think I may be very lucky. My recovery was really easy. Little pain and I had no trouble returning to work after a one week. At the 11/28 meeting, the PA inflated all the way and I had no pain. I was concerned that I had lost some size since my penis looked smaller but when I got home that night and inflated and measured I was darn near close to my size pre-surgery (5.5 inches). Good luck!
