Peeing After Surgery

Hello,
I am 4 days post surgery and I am not still not getting a steady stream while peeing? Should I be worried?
I am able to pee but it takes long time and comes in spurts. Is that expected?

All that I know is that, if you can't pee, that's definitely a problem.

The fact that you can't pee "a steady stream" could be for a variety of reasons but, as long as you can pee something, I wouldn't panic.

I can only offer to the platitude that it should get better w/time. How long, I couldn't say but if you can't pee normally w/in a week or so, I'd say that would be the time to contact your doc to discuss it further.

For me, peeing after surgery was very inconvenient. For the first quite a few days I had to pee in a jug. After a couple weeks the stream was still terrible but urinals were no problem. I'm six months out now and it seems to be back to normal. It took 3 or 4 months to get normal though.

Oh man. For the first 6 weeks i was spraying all over the toilet. Sometimes the stream would split in two with one stream hitting the water and the other stream splashing the rim of the toilet and beyond. I'd never had to clean my toilet more in those days.

2 months in now. 90% back to normal and improving. Those early days i was inflated, so the upward angle didn't help matters. Now, flaccid, i generally pee like the old me again.

I peed like a racehorse immediately post surgery. When they asked me if I had to pee before surgery I said no, because I wanted something ready to deliver after surgery, since peeing was my ticket outta there.

I've been using the curved urinal jug for the past 23 days, and my stream is tight and normal. I never had any issues or pain peeing.

Maybe your issue has to do with having a catheter, things are probably irritated in there.

Had the same issue. Probably being caused by swelling. It will get better pretty quickly.

Oh yes, removing that catheter was quite the sting. I'd had one a couple times before after other surgeries, but this was the first time removing it myself. I had to take a real deep breath and just do it.
Peeing for the next couple days was unpredictable at best. A bit of burning and more like a sprinkler than a stream. LOL
It got back to normal pretty quick though.

It took me three or four weeks before I could pee on my own. Used a catheter every time I pee'd. When I returned went to the hospital and they gave me Coloplast catheters, and these catheters were really well made, far superior than the ones I used before.

Inserting them, and taking them out, extremely easy to do with the implant. Also, at the end of the day the Titan solved my frequent urination difficulty.

That’s interesting that you mention that. Before my implant i’d been noticing some of those “urgency & frequency” issues as time went on. Now, 2 months postop, i too notice that these issues have diminished. I have been wondering if this is in my head or if there’s something implant-related to it. Either way, it’s better now.

This is interesting.

I had urinary frequency & urgency (UFU) issues for decades, which was incorrectly diagnosed & treated by my PCPs as BPH & for which I was given meds, like Flomax, that didn't help fix the problem as a result.

The problem was so bad that I carried a pee bottle in my car, which I had to often use.

A year ago (a yr before I got my IPP), I saw a urologist for the 1st time about this problem which I still thought was related to BPH but which he immediately diagnosed as an "overactive bladder" not BPH and prescribed Myrbetric (a bladder relaxant) that immediately fixed the problem.

One of the side benefits of the incorrect BPH diagnosis was that I was prescribed daily 5mg Cialis to treat it for years too. However, since I didn't have BPH, it obviously didn't help to fix that problem but it probably helped to hide the fact that I was developing ED years before ED became a noticeable problem about 3 yrs ago for me.

I stopped taking Cialis and cancelled my standing prescription for it after I got my implant and now you've got me thinking that I might not need to take Myrbetriq anymore after my implant too.

I'm motivated to take fewer, not more, meds. So, I'm going to stop taking Myrbetriq for awhile to see if the UFU returns or not.

If not, I 'll be happy to stop taking Myrbetriq too but I'll carry my pee bottle w/me in case the implant alone can't prevent my UFU from returning.
