Three Months Away

Hello all,

I have no idea what I am doing but I have decided to go for the implant simply because I cannot live like this any more. And you know, I've done some research on it but it's not been exhaustive, I just saw a lot of the posts on here of people who have been through it and are living a normal life to be enough for me. But it is beyond daunting. I've decided to go with Dr. Ralph in the UK.

Now do you guys have any advice as to what if anything I should be doing three months pre-surgery? I am new to all this and have no idea if there is anything that I should be doing to help with the procedure, I am sure the Dr. will mention it but I will not be speaking to him until about a month from now. In the meantime it would be nice to know about any prep from people who have been through the procedure.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated since I will be going into the procedure on my own.

Thank you.

Get a VED (Vacuum Erection Device) and start doing a vacuum assisted erection every day for at least 10 minutes to prevent loss of length of the current size of your penis. There are some fairly cheap motorized rechargeable VED devices on Amazon that will help. I had a self pumping device and it can get tiring, so a motorized one would be better.

I'm attaching one that doesn't have erection rings and I'll add another one that has erection rings that will maintain the erection after you remove the vacuum device.

3 months pre-op I started using a VED every morning and every night to try to retain/regain some of my loss of size due to ED and atrophy. Although I was still getting useless chubbies overnight providing oxygen to the cells in my penis, it wasn't being stretched and an engorged enough to keep my natural size. There were times before I started VED that I was that guy with nothing but a glans stuck to the front of my pubis.

After a month or so of VED twice a day, my flaccid state was noticeably bigger and fuller than it was before I started. I looked at it like training for the 40 yard dash in the Olympics, I had weeks and weeks to prepare for a 10 second measurement at the time of surgery.

My doc recommended VED to keep those tissues oxygenated and stretched, but asked me to stop a few days before surgery to eliminate any residual bruising that might be there. I'm extremely happy with the outcome.

Thank you, I do have a self pumping one but might look into the electric one. I wasn't aware of having to do that for loss of size.

I wasn't even aware of the pump helping to maintain size. I've been so down about this it's almost as though I was blocking out even addressing it. Well, not almost as though, I was in fact blocking it all out.

So ten odd minutes twice a day then. Did you have an electric one or self pumping one?

Thank you for your replies, helps a lot.

I have a self pumping one, I don't mind pumping it up and looking at the vacuum gauge to see where I am. It feels like I had excellent control over the vacuum pressures. My routine was this:

--Pump to 5 inches of vacuum for 5 minutes, for me this would get the blood into my penis and start the process.
--Release vacuum, rest for 2 minutes.
--Pump to 7 inches for 5 minutes, rest for 2.
--Pump to 7-9 or wherever I felt the stretch for 5, and rest for 2
--Pump to 7-9 or wherever I felt the stretch for 5 and done.

It was about 30 minutes, I'd do it right when I woke up in bed and as I watched TV in bed before going to sleep. No big deal. Actually, I began to enjoy it and looked forward to it, it was great to see my penis engorged and big again.

Couple of tips, I measured from the base of the cylinder and used a Sharpie pen to mark 7, 7.5, 7.75 and 8 inches on the cylinder so I could measure my progress. I started at just a hint over 7" and got to 7.5 pretty quickly and finished just shy of 8". After I started pumping, I never had that turtle effect again, my flaccid actually hung...and sort of plumply.

I also used a good lotion around the base of the cylinder and rubbed it inside up a couple of inches so your skin slides nicely into the cylinder and doesn't pull and grab. I also finished each session by rubbing lotion all over the pumped up parts to soothe it a bit. I am intact, so I was also careful to not overpump, otherwise my foreskin would just fill with fluid and I'd get a bit of a "donut" that didn't do any good and was a little uncomfortable. My routine worked for me to get maximum pump without any edema (fluid buildup). If you do get a little edema, it'll absorb again in day or so and you sort of learn what works best for you and how your body responds.

My wife knew what I was doing it for and would often remind me or ask me if I had done my pumping for the day. ;)

I have seen doctors recommend 5 or 10 or whatever minutes per day to maintain penis health, my routine was longer, but I enjoyed it.

Many thanks for the detailed reply. How daunting is this whole implant journey hey. Does your head in but can't live like this any more.

I am a very experienced VED user but whether you actually need" or can benefit by using a VED depends on different factors.

You definitely do NOT need to use a VED preop if your ED is recent and if your penis has not atrophied. Using it in this case would be worthless.

Even if your ED started long ago and your penis has atrophied significantly, starting to use one only 3 months prior to surgery is also of questionable utility but, if you decide to use one anyway, just do NOT use excess pressure or long periods of time. Doing so could cause an injury that could damage your penis and delay or complicate your surgery.

The best use of the VED for the treatment of ED and prevention of penis atrophy starts the day that you can't get it up anymore. The longer you wait to use one for this purpose, less useful it will be prior to getting an implant.

On the other hand, using a VED in conjuction with cycling post op, can be very useful in attempting to restore some prior length. Some people here claim to have regained all of their lenght lost to ED/atrophy by cycling and using a VED but I am skeptical of such claims.

I'd say more conservatively that you should be able to see some gains post op via cycling/VED use but how much size can/will be regained will vary widely

There is nothing you really need to do preop except keep yourself and your dick healthy.

Each doc has a specific preop procedure that they ask their patients to follow in order to prevent infection which starts about 5 days preop.

My doc had me clean my gentials w/Hebiclens and take a Bactrin (antibiotioc pill) 2x/day AM & PM starting 5 days prior to surgery. My doc also had me continue to take the Bactrin 2x/day for 9 days following the surgery.

I've already stated my opinion about VED use preop. Personally, only 3 months prior to surgery, I don't think you need bother. See my comments above for specifics.

Good luck!
