Incision minor bleeding 7 days post op

Hi guys, I got implanted 7 days ago. The recovery has been smooth, I wake up with some pain everyday, but it can be managed with 1 Ibuprofen, and generally little pain throughout the day.

But something unexpected happened tonight: when I was gently applying Bacitracin to my incision area, some blood started oozing from the right corner of the sutures. As shown in the picture, it’s not a lot of blood, and basically stopped after i stopped touching that area.

A bit concerned right now. Will certainly call the dr’s office tomorrow and ask them. But in the meantime, any experiences and suggestions would be very helpful: is this kind of incision bleeding normal? Could this be sign for infection? And what should I do regarding the incision, should I keep applying Bacitracin? Anything can be done to speed up the healing of that incision?

Thank you!

Did your doctor direct you to apply bacitracin? I was sent home from the hospital with an antibacterial ointment in the plastic bag of "stuff" they gave me. I texted my doc and asked him when I should start applying it. He told me to throw it away, he didn't want anything on my incision, he wanted it to dry out. It was sealed up and needed nothing else. Apparently the hospital just tosses that into their goodie bag. I'm 4 weeks out and never had any oozing and I'm all healed up.

I wonder if the ointment is keeping the site moist and slowing the healing?

Thanks for the response. They directed me to apply the bacitracin. I called the office tonight, and the on-call doctor told me that this is quite normal and no need to worry too much.

Never ceases to amaze me how vastly different the procedures, post- and pre- are at times even among higher volume surgeons.

Feels more like an art than a science at times.
