Trying to make preparations for post-surgery recovery days and subsequent flight back home.
What kind of jockstraps and/or special underwear, if any, would you recommend? Is it like those protective used for sports, or something different?
Many thanks in advance,

If you can walk around naked, I'd highly advise it!
Otherwise, get underwear with a hole in it you can stick your dick through. Your dick will be sensitive, baggy clothes, underwear with a hole in it for your dick, or nekkid, its the way to go!
Get BABY socks...actual baby socks! Put the over your dick while it healing (just remember to take it off before you take a leak, lol). The sensitivity will make all of this make sense.
Frozen peas are also a good idea as an ice pack. They conform to your shape.
Good luck!

I bought my plain jock strap at a store chain called "Big Five". Two in a plastic clamshell package for $15. Carefull, they sell some suppprters that have a built in hard protective cup. I can't see that as working cause it directs the penis down.
I wore it over my normal underwear. The jockstrap material is a bit rough.
I wore sweatpants the first two weeks. I bought a pair of suspenders that clipped onto the pants band. In the back I only clipped them to the pants. In the front I clipped them to all 3 waistbands. Pants, jockstrap & underwear. The length was adjusted to keep my pants where I like them.
This method ended up being the most comfortable & effective way to keep my penis pointing up. No partial erection was visible. After the first two weeks I went to my normal jeans.
Peeing was easy. Undo the front two clips & pull all three waistbands down enough to pee. Pull it all up & reattach the clips when done.
Sitting on a toilet required taking my shirt off so the suspenders could fall backwards to let me drop my pants.

The first few days it was nothing but my bathrobe. Then I bought boxer briefs.
And I took a couple pair of my grandson's socks, cut off the elastic neck, and covered my shaft when I started wearing underwear. Kept me from rubbing on clothes.
For travelling my suggestion is one size larger sweatpants and satin boxers, shaft covered with sock. Bring a big zip lock baggie, get friendly with the stewardess and ask for ice often!

I suggest calling the airline and asking if they would provide wheelchair service from curb to loading gate. You don't have to tell them exactly what impairs you except that you had surgery and want to be sure you can make the trip to the airplane (and connecting flights) on time and are unsure how fast you can walk.

If you’re in a hotel room a few days postop, just be naked as much as possible and let it hang. Very loose gym shorts with your dick pointing out works to…or an open bathrobe.
Going home, comfortable cotton boxer briefs. Any brand. Pull your dick up and put a 1-size too large jockstrap over that. That was the most comfortable “walking around” in public configuration for me.
Once i was healed i really started enjoying wearing the seperatec “everyday” cotton briefs. I still enjoy having a package for once. I did buy the silky seperatec briefs too. Those are for going out when sex might happen. Available on Amazon.

I got these before my vasectomy when I was told I need to bring supportive underwear, and I think they might help with what you want but this stuff is not a topic I know a thing about:
