I wish I was rich, so I could do this and have tons of money left if I ever need revision or anything. Goes to show only the rich benefit and enjoy life, regular joe has to be lucky and get "approved" by insurance, etc, or you have to 65+ to be approved. If you're younger, you out of luck. Having the right insurance in most cases is OUTSIDE of your control, has more to do with where you work, live, how much you make, etc. Imagine being a regular Joe with only 25k in the bank, which is not that bad, financing a 25k surgery, only for it to fail and need a revision in a few years, fork out more money, bigger debt, digging yourself into a bigger financial hole, using your savings, etc.
The rich always enjoy all the solutions and fixes in life for everything, whether this is plastic surgery, etc. The implant should be permanent and work a lifetime, not 15 years at best. Its a very risky surgery both financially wise but also erection wise, once the implant is in, good bye to any natural erection, so if you can't pay for a revision, etc well tough luck. I don't feel comfortable having a procedure that may fail sooner than later or last 15 years at best, knowing full well a revision will be another 25k, that I will have to get in debt, fork out my savings, sacrifice my financial feature for an erection
Why is this surgery so expensive tho? Its very unfair for people suffering from this problem and is not even permanent. 25-35k is a lot. I barely have 25k in my bank account. No plastic surgery costs this much, not even a hair transplant. Where is the cost really coming from? Its not highly complex surgery either, they are simply inserting a couple of rods and a balloon. Its so simple that it can be done under local anesthesia and in 20 minutes. It seems the cost has more to do with the "problem". Penile erectile issues are a common and devastating problem for men worldwide. Men are desperate for a solution. It's expensive because they can. Similarly, many insurances may not cover it. Many offices only accept work insurance, so if you don't have insurance through your employer, out of luck.
Sure, maybe Medicare covers it, but you need to be 65, when you're already old, what about younger men who don't have Medicare or good insurance? This procedure IMO should be no more than 10k, is just an implant insertion like any other, a chin, breast implant, etc. That's why the malleable is more popular in developing countries like India, it makes sense, it lasts longer, has less chance of revision, lower cost, etc. Imagine paying 25k either through a loan or cash, only for the implant to fail in a couple of years, I'd be devastated. From a financial perspective, makes more sense to travel India and have the indian malleable implanted for a fraction of the cost and probably permanent
People compared a penile implant to buying a new car lol is not the same
The car will outlive the implant, but also you can "insure" the car, so if it totals, you get your money back, buy another one
With the implant, you don't get shit back, if you paid 25k for the procedure and 2 years from now the implant fails or gets infected, you have pay up again for a revision
in the end it always boils down to money, always
Who is the most affordable surgeon in the USA?
Re: Who is the most affordable surgeon in the USA?
I do agree with you in most of what you said. I’m not by any means wealth, but I do have good insurance thru the company I work for. I have a friend who actually quit a good job and found another equal job simply to have better insurance that covers an implant. Also in mine and most other cases if you still have function and not total ED then you’re not really ready for an implant. Once you have NO function and pills basically quit working and shots also become painful and increasingly unreliable then you might be willing to take the risk of a possible failure in the future at this point you would have nothing to loose and everything to gain. It might be possible to buy a personal insurance plan just to get the surgery done, might be much cheeper than paying out of pocket. Many Drs offer a much discounted price for an out of pocket cash payment. The Dr I used quoted a $18,000 price for out of pocket but he no longer does implants. I’m sure others do also though. Good luck with your future. There’s always options, just do the research and find something that you can do.

This is a tough call
Yes, obviously this isn't cheap and by the grace of God Blue Shield covered me almost 100%
That said, if you decide to be implanted I don't recommend you go a part time Doctor or someone who isn't world class.
It's Not cheap, I'm aware of this, but the Doctor who handled me told me of nightmare revisions he had to do on people who went to less than reputable surgeons.
Me personally?
I'd rather be financially busted with a reliable hard-on then rich with an inferior system that may or not work
Ultimately your call
Other Countries have quality surgeons at a more affordable price.
You may want to consider going down that route.
Research very carefully.
Good Luck.

Dr Clavell for example does not take personal insurance and there are other surgeons just like him
so even if I wanted to buy the best insurance possible for the surgery, it wont be taken, they only take insurance through employer or commercial insurance
or of course, finance or cash
insurance and the medical system in this country is garbage, many surgeons are like that, they won't take personal insurance even less through the marketplace aka ghetto insurance lmao
so like in a way, it has a lot do with things outside of your control, where you work, where you live, etc which is very unfair
Sure medicare covers 80% and with complemental insurance, the cost may be zero, but you need to be 65 or disable, who want to wait to 65 years old? what about men in their 30s-40s with this problem?
if your insurance doesn't cover well tough luck, you either get in debt or pay cash assuming you even have 25k in cash to dish out just like that
maybe if the surgery was permanent, for life I wouldn't mind forking out 25k
it makes more and more sense to just travel to indian and have a malleable implanted for 3-4k and be done with it
Re: Who is the most affordable surgeon in the USA?
Well, you've unloaded a lot on your post. Tell me how much it sucks to get ED. Been there, got the shirt.
I married into a family of 3 girls. I married the youngest. So I had two older brother in laws. It never failed that at family gatherings both would crow about how much $$ they made. Always more than me.
I watched both of them retire with health problems. Both smoking related. Neither owned a house. One is dead, the other couple lives in a condo that his son owns. Many meals are hotdogs. Not my problem. We are still in touch & on decent terms.
The sister of the living bil told my wife a few years ago that gt1956 always had that "good" job. Totally skipped that my wife nearly always worked & gets her own social security.
So what is the point you might ask? Yes, you say you have ED. But when looking at a career path & employer you need to look at the long game. You're really missing the point that many men can & do pay cash for cars & imagine this.....implants. A fellow FT member drove around 300 miles to my surgeon & plopped down cash to pay for a revision done many years ago by a different dr. I know the area where he lives. It isn't what I'd call a booming area. Maybe even could be called rural.
Its cruel but its called priorities. Btw, I truely do wish you the best luck. Oh, after travel & other costs I wonder if India is very much cheaper. Remember, even in the USA malleables are cheaper.
