there are very few men on FT that have had both Titan and AMS implanted, and had no other unrelated implant issues that affected their experience with each. Meaning, no two experiences with the different implants are identical.
Users can only report on their individual experience with the implant they have. So, I'll chime in with my experience with my AMS CX.
I also consulted with Dr. Clavell, and did so not only because he was highly recommended, but also because he offered both the Coloplast and the AMS products. I didn't want to go to a surgeon that only offered one or the other, because there is a clear and definite difference between the two implants, and if I happen to be a square peg I would be forced into a round hole with only one option (I could have used a better analogy...
) My goal was the very best outcome for me, not the best outcome in relation to a single style of implant.
Prior to my consultation I had done weeks of research and was leaning towards one of the implants. After my consultation with Dr. Clavell I asked him what he would recommend for me. He repeated that the decision was mine, especially since he could tell I had done the research on both. I pressed him to give me his opinion, which he did. He recommended the AMS CX for my application, which is what I had been leaning towards on my own. (The LGX, although the lengthening sounds appealing, look into that one very carefully before proceeding. I think there's a reason Coloplast has not copied that technology even though we ALL love the thought of pumping in more length)
I'm almost 10 months post op and couldn't be happier (like many men with Titans too). I'm well aware that for 99% of the rest of my life my penis will be snugly tucked away in my pants. For me, the comfortable flaccid was important. It looks natural flaccid, it feels natural flaccid, it acts 100% naturally while flaccid. At gametime it comes alive and provides everything my wife and I need it to (and more) for as long as we need it to (forever). Then, it goes back to being something I don't ever think about until I whip it out to pee, and then I'm happy all over again that I have it.
Girth is largely decided by your anatomy and not the implant. Even when not installed in a body, the difference in girth between the two implants is minimal, put them into a penis and those tissues will likely be the limiting girth factor, probably not the cylinder girth itself. I believe the girth argument is not worth having while considering which implant to choose. Dr. Clavell himself said to me on an in person follow up "I can tell you've been cycling, your girth is the same as a Titan". I think what he meant was that I had maximized the AMS within my own limiting corpora, he could feel it. I don't believe that a woman's vagina can tell the difference between 5.75" of girth and 6" of girth (4" and 6"? sure, but 1/4"?... I don't think so)**. Women are about the mental side of sex, men are about the physical side. WE want that extra 1/4" of girth for our own reasons.
Studies have shown that rigidity between the Titan and the CX is virtually identical, in my personal case, my wife prefers 80% inflation, I don't need the last 20% to accomplish my "goals". I cycle to 100%, but when deployed for pleasure it is not needed.
I've never had a dog ear or any type of discomfort, my penis is soft when flaccid, it hangs like a natural penis and I don't worry about looking like I have a boner when I don't. I don't worry about locker rooms or gym shorts or grandkids on my lap, unwanted bulges or crinkly noises. It doesn't look like roadkill or is in any way misshapen when deflated. My pump doesn't show in my sac and doesn't squeak or squeal when pumping.
It has been repeated on FT a few times that "I got an implant for maximum erection, not maximum flaccid" (or something like this). I can understand the sentiment, we're all 12 year old boys when it comes down to brass tacks. We all want the biggest boner we can get. But, be honest, the flaccid state will be what your dick will be in for virtually the rest of your life (I know, I know.... bunch of you guys are boning 5 girls a night 6 days a week) If you average your sex opportunities from right now to the day you die, your deployed hours are laughably negligible. I don't want to be 90 yrs old shuffling around a family gathering with a semi-boner, and I also don't want to be 59 yrs. old and worried about whether or not I look like I have a boner at the gym or at the beach with my grandkids.
You're doing the right thing by consulting with doctors that offer both. There are many of us that had the pleasure of being implanted by Dr. Clavell here on FT, and we all didn't come to the same conclusions as to which one is best for them. I know Dr. Clavell installed a Titan in a man just an hour before he installed an AMS in me, I can only assume he's as happy with his as I am with mine.
**The famous sex researchers Masters and Johnson have concluded that size of the male penis can have no true physiological effect on female sexual satisfaction. They base this conclusion on their physiological studies that show that the vagina adapts to fit the size of the penis.
Because of this vaginal adaptation, they refer to the vagina as a potential space rather than an actual space. (Emphasis added
