Hi everyone. Yesterday I made the decision not to proceed with the surgery with Doctor Cosentino. I'll explain what happened.
During the visit and the interview, he told me that he would implant a one touch titan in me, I would stay in the clinic for a night and the next day he would completely deflate me and send me home, and I wouldn't have to touch it for 5/6 weeks. absolutely nothing.
reading most of your experiences on franktalk (let's say practically all of them) I normally see that you remain totally or partially inflated for a few weeks, then a check-up visit, deflation and then you start the cycling sessions. so, seeing this difference in procedure, I wrote him an email that said this:
Good morning Doctor, comparing myself with several people who have already received the implant, most of them have remained inflated or partially inflated for a few weeks so that the scar tissue (capsule) forms around the cylinders and the conspicuous ears of dog.
I was expecting an answer from a professional doctor, perhaps with some technical answers... but no!
his response was: I don't know where you could have read this nonsense and I invite you to stop reading these blogs/sites made by I don't know who.
I kindly reply by saying that beyond direct testimonies, the procedure of leaving the implant inflated is present on the official websites of Italian andrologists (Antonini) and around the world. also attaching the text where it expressly says that this phase is important.
he replies: he misunderstood what was written!
I reply: that's exactly why I'm asking you the question. Just to understand better.
He finally answers me like this:
I have operated on patients several times who have read (like you) information on the wrong sites and any type of dialogue with these people is impossible.
these patients will always ask why I did or didn't do what another colleague says and this is not the right way to work. therefore it is better for you to have the operation directly from Antonini because we are two completely different specialists.
(I would say embarrassing answer)
then I counted to 100... and replied:
I think that a patient who has to undergo such an operation (moreover paying a significant cost out of his own pocket) has the right to inform himself and discuss it. the danger of reading wrong information on the internet exists but this is where in my opinion a doctor should make the difference, perhaps trying to give professional and comprehensive answers and make the patient understand certain concepts.
I'm happy to have had this discussion with you, because if this is your approach to your patients I'm sorry but you're not right for me.

I would not have been nearly so diplomatic.

In a post a few days ago, I made the comment that when it comes to having some doctor cut on your junk, knowledge is power.

Truthfully, in the big scheme of things, I don’t know if it really makes any real difference early activation or 6 week wait. Tissues stretch. I used a “start cycling on day 3” doctor and I was still stretching things a year later.

Doctors are entitled to use the techniques they think work the best.

They are not entitled to treat patients like ignorant children.

If he had said “do your research, but my experience has been that waiting until you’re well healed causes less stiff scar tissue, a less traumatic transition, and no loss of size due to scarring or structures” you could have had an adult, doctor-patient conversation, and you could have made an informed decision.

Instead, the doctor was an asshole about the whole deal.

Medicine is about way more than mere surgical skill or pleasant personality. It has to start with trust. Especially when the scalpel is aimed at your dick.

in fact, I was expecting a slightly more technical answer like: I do it this way because in my opinion healing is faster... or I do it this way because it takes so much time for the capsule to form... or I do it this way because I've never had any problem.. (and I would have accepted any answer because I don't have the expertise in the matter.. they are the doctors) Instead I got a touchy, arrogant and rude response. apart from the fact that from what he wrote to me it appears that some informed patient has complained telling him why you did it this way and not this way, so he will not have been satisfied with the result. However, I am convinced that in this case the doctor prefers to deal with people who are not informed on the subject, so that if something were to go wrong he can minimize the problem and not take responsibility.

I have found most dr's do not care to be called out on much of anything. They feel their word and experience should be enough? Thanks to the internet and sites like this one we are no longer in the dark ages, the same cannot be said for some dr's. I have a family member who is a leading dr. in her field, when asked the question about surgeon follow up care she replied " most surgeons have little contact with a patient after the surgery because of the way the insurance companies are they don't get paid to follow up". Based on my interaction with insurance companies as I age I would not doubt that but we as patients should not be treated as children and left in the dark about our care. We always have the right to seek care elsewhere if we are not comfortable with the provider we have chosen.

I fully agree with you. I have discovered many things thanks to this site, I have read all your experiences reading the pros and cons of all the systems. this opened my eyes to better understand a world that was previously little known. it is from here that I understood that the big difference is made by the doctor who operates on you. Some doctors prefer to deal with ignorant people on the subject to whom they can tell all the fairy tales in the world so as not to take on their responsibilities. Other doctors, however, are scrupulous, ambitious and do not fear comparisons, aware of their abilities and aware that people like us can above all be an added value for them, because we would be the best source of advertising! word of mouth will always be the best advertising ever!

Sorry for your experience. My opinion: I've had 12 surgeries and many different body parts. All successful with the exception that they didn't get all of my cancer but I'm good to go, very active etc. I'm like Humpty Dumpty. They certainly put me back together again. I really can't complain about the surgeons. Most are excellent. However...lets talk about bedside manners lol. To keep this short most Dr's do not want to hear from us patients about what we read on the net etc. I've had my arguments several times with them and even though I had several surgeries by the same Dr.....we fought and fought but I still used him because he was one of the best so I got by his attitude. He fixed me up.I asked mine alot of questions regarding the implant and sure his initial reaction was that of "Don't believe what you read etc" and I didn't make anything from it because of his reputation etc. It wasn't that we couldn't have a conversation. He did consider me and was empathetic etc. Most surgeons will raise an eyebrow once us patients pose questions about what we heard from others and especially what we found on the net. My implant I was not inflated. I still wonder why many are inflated. All I know is after 14 months in, a complete success. At the end of the day ya gotta be comfortable with whom you use. GL to ya.

I agree 100% with you.

After my prostatectomy was handed off to urologist who I was not impressed with at all.
He would be the guy THEY picked for me and the guy cutting into me.
His blase' attitude and speaking to me like I was at McDonalds drive-thru window was a total
turnoff.
The decision was made immediately in my head when I got an "eyeroll" after I fired off a question he didn't like.

Going into this Surgery you better damn well be 100% confident on who is slicing into your manhood.

My Doctor told me the revisions and the shoddy work he has seen done by others in this field.

You made the right call.

My doctor was pleased I used FrankTalk and complimented the board.

Man, attitude counts for so much comfort. It's so damn important. A touch of arrogant pride is confidence-inducing. Too much just feels like the doctor is a jerk, and if he cares this little about relating to you, how much can he care about your life and your limb.
