Initial consult with Dr. Eid--surgery scheduled

I traveled to NYC from Florida for an initial consult with Dr. Francois Eid this past Thursday, Jan 24. He seems universally admired by the members of this board who have met him, and I now join in with that sentiment. While there, I decided to proceed and scheduled my surgery for Friday, March 8. Some of the things I learned that I hadn't gleaned from other people's posts: First, he prefers outpatient surgery for implant, saying that this type of surgery doesn't belong in a hospital--too many germs floating around, increasing the possibility of infection. I had thought Medicare requires an overnight hospital stay, but he says no. For my surgery, he'll be using Manhattan Eye and Ear, a unit of Lenox Hill Hospital. I will spend two or three nights in a nearby hotel before heading back to Florida.
I learned that these days, 90% of his implants are Coloplast. He had a number of good reasons for this and I decided to trust his judgment, since he's the expert. He measured my stretched and erect (via injection) length at 13.5 cm, and said I could expect a similar length with the implant. Plus, my girth should increase beyond the current measurement. I learned that his infection rates remain impressively low--he has updated his statistics on his website, for anyone interested. In 2010 he implanted over 300 men, and had zero infections, although the following two years he had I think a couple each year. He has an arrangement with Coloplast that if an implant is touched more than twice during the actual surgery, he can throw it away and use a fresh one at no extra cost. Interesting, as he says each unit costs $8000!
In the office at the time of my visit was a gentleman and his wife who are from South America, making arrangements for a surgery date. Dr. Eid certainly has a worldwide reputation.
I will post more as I get closer to my date.
