Surgery and Diabetes/Weight Loss Drugs?

I scheduled surgery today and the lady I talked with said I'd need to stop Mounjaro (same drug as Zepbound, similar to Ozempic/Wegovy) a week beforehand.
If you are on one of these medications, how long did they tell you to wait *after* surgery before resuming? It's put my diabetes in remission and helped with my weight significantly so I'd rather not interrupt too long.
I did ask but she didn't know. I'll ask the doctor but I think I've tried his patience with questions for a little while.

As soon as surgery is over you can use it. The only reason you have to stop is for when they put you under. Taking any of those drugs causes your food to stay in your stomach a lot longer, so they are worried that you might try to throw up and it gets lodged in your throat when they have you under. Now every hospital is different, in June I had a revision and they wanted me to stop ozempic for 2 weeks and 3 days on clear fluids only. I am scheduled for shoulder replacement in 3 weeks and was going through pre-op yesterday different hospital . They said 1 day clear fluids only and do not take ozempic the day of surgery, go figure.

I concur with everyone here: was told skip a week, but can start again immediately after surgery.

I am on Mounjaro. Started back in January and have lost 80 pounds so far.
Dr. Clavell's instructions were to stop 1 week prior to the surgery and I started back up a couple of days later after surgery on my weekly shot day.

The ASA (American Society of Anesthesiologist) guideline on GLP-1 agonists is to hold the GLP-1 medication that is taken daily for a day, the GLP-1 medication that is taken weekly for a week.
This class of medication helps lose weight by slowing GI motility. Food stays in your stomach longer, you feel full longer, you eat less. Voilà! Weight loss! (Not quite THAT simple, but you get the point.)
The risk of a “full-stomach” is serious to surgeons and anesthesiologists. If you aspirate even a tiny bit of gastric contents (VERY acidic) the damage to the lungs can be catastrophic.
Regardless of whether you take the daily or weekly version, follow your doctors guidelines. You don’t want this complication and you don’t want to get your surgery cancelled because you didn’t follow orders.

I too am a diabetic....Took all the standard drugs....Blood pressure, Lantus Solastar, Aspirin, and many others. The doctors had me STOP all meds 7 -10 days before my D-day. And I did.....Me being very cautious and scared shytless. I took no chances taking any of those meds. Once surgery was over, I got back to my med schedule. And I must say, the after effects were all a 10. No problems or issues, except that damn pump ball was hard as a rock. But with several meetings with the AMS support reps, all worked out. My personal problem, I was afraid I would hurt something down there. But once I was convinced that you can't hurt or damage anything down there.....I was given the GREEN light.
